SAM Smith will return to Australia at the end of the year with a surgically-improved voice and upgraded venues.
The singer from London, 23-year-old Smith abruptly postponed his sold-out Australian shows in May after doctors diagnosed a vocal cord haemorraghe.
Smith will play Perth Arena on November 28, Adelaide Entertainment Centre on December 1, Qantas Credit Union Arena in Sydney on December 4, Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne on December 8 and Brisbane Entertainment Centre on December 12. All shows are all ages and in keeping with the low prices on the initial tour all tickets are priced at around $85.
Smith underwent surgery in the US last month and has cancelled all performances. He is due to resume touring at the start of July, health pending, then has a heavy schedule of dates all around the world until the end of September.
Fans who had tickets for Smith’s axed Australian shows will get first dibs at buying tickets for the rescheduled dates through a special pre-sale. Ticketek will contact ticket holders with full information.
The May tour was booked before Smith’s album dominated the Australian chart and was mainly in venues around 5000 capacity. Most venues on the rescheduled dates will be at least twice the size.
A pre-sale for Frontier Touring members starts on June 11 while tickets to the general public go on sale from 10am June 17.
Smith’s album In the Lonely Hour has sold over 210,000 copies in Australia and has passed the five million sales mark worldwide.
“The doctors have told me I need to fully rest until my vocal cords have healed, otherwise this could become a huge long-term issue,” Smith said in a statement at the time of axing the Australian dates including two songs on the Logies, which were later filled by Megan Trainor.
“I am so sorry to all who have bought tickets, I truly am. This kills me.”

Smith, who turned 23 last month, was successfully operated on in the US by Dr Steven Zeitels, who performed the same procedure on Adele and Lionel Richie. He has been unable to talk for three weeks after the operation and appeared on the Billboard Music Awards holding up placards with a thank you speech written on them.
The singer said on Twitter his first words after breaking his silence will be “f**k me that was s**t”.
December will now see Smith’s friends Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran crisscrossing the country around the same time.
