SHORT Stack frontman Shaun Diviney has finally revealed why the Australian trio were kicked off the national tour by British boy band The Vamps last month.

Reunited last year after a two-year hiatus, the band were excited to reconnect with their fans and possibly make some new ones on the January tour.

But “weird vibes” and the Stack’s inability to dial down being natural-born smartarses cut their stint on the tour short.

Diviney said the threats to kick them off the tour began in Melbourne when their set ran two minutes over time, a big no-no for support acts.

He claimed The Vamps crew took an immediate dislike to the cheeky Australian band but the fact Short Stack’s own fans were “rowdy” supporters at the gig compounded the discord between the British headliners and the local openers.

“They tried to blame us for some girl getting her arm pinched during our set,” he said.

“We didn’t deal with it in the most professional way; we were smart arses.

“You can take the boys out of the (Central) coast but you can’t take the coast out of the boys. Our poor label, we’re still giving them a headache.”

Diviney and bandmates Bradie Webb and Andy Clemmensen decided to give the Sway Sway Baby band another shot last year after calling it quits in early 2012.

They spent a month in London working with the legendary producer Chris Kimsey whose credits over the past four decades include the Rolling Stones’ Stickey Fingers and Tattoo You records as well as Killing Joke, Duran Duran and INXS projects.

The first single Dance With Me is certainly an emphatic statement that Short Stack consider themselves a rock band.

But it may also sound very, very familiar to fans of Iggy Pop’s Lust For Life or Jet’s Are You Gonna Be My Girl?

Diviney said he wasn’t worried about the comparisons as Pop had always insisted his song bore a resemblance to The Supremes’ You Can’t Hurry Love.

“We were actually trying to borrow the vibe from The Doors’ Touch Me but it turned more into Iggy Pop,” he said.

Diviney said one of the reasons he and his bandmates decided to reunite Short Stack was the return of rock music to the charts courtesy of local bands from Violent Soho and Kingswood to global chartslayers 5 Seconds of Summer.

“5 Seconds of Summer is the best thing to happen to rock bands on radio. There’s a lot to thank those dudes for because they have shown a new generation cares about rock music,” he said.

The video for the new single premieres on Channel V this afternoon while the Dance With Me EP is out on March 27.
