The first trailer has dropped for Zendaya’s hotly-anticipated upcoming movie, and it’s set the internet alight thanks to one particularly spicy scene.

Challengers, a buzzy sports rom-com, follows tennis prodigy Tashi Duncan (Zendaya) who becomes embroiled in a love triangle with two up-and-coming male players, her boyfriend Patrick (Josh O’Connor) and his best friend, Art (Mike Faist).

In one clip, we see the trio appearing to embark on a threesome in a hotel room, where Zendaya’s character is seen passionately making out with the pair.

The moment has sparked a hilarious reaction on Twitter, with Zendaya’s real-life boyfriend, Marvel star Tom Holland, finding himself the face of a flurry of memes.

The threesome scene happens while the main trio are in their youth. The heart of the movie, though, takes place years later, after injury has forced Tashi out of the game prematurely.

She becomes the tennis coach for Art – now her husband – who after a stint of domination is on a losing streak. In order to resurrect his career, Art signs up to face off in a must-win match against Tashi’s ex Patrick, whom both Tashi and Art have become estranged from.

Call Me By Your Name director Luca Guadagnino is at the helm of the MGM flick, which is slated for a September release.

An official synopsis reads: “Tennis player turned coach Tashi has taken her husband, Art, and transformed him into a world-famous grand slam champion. To jolt him out of his recent losing streak, she makes him play a “Challenger” event — close to the lowest level of pro tournament — where he finds himself standing across the net from his former best friend and Tashi’s former boyfriend.”

The trailer’s release comes just days after Holland, 27, who met Zendaya, 26, when they filmed Spider-Man: Homecoming together in 2016, opened up about the couple’s private relationship.

It’s understood the pair went official some time in 2021.

“Our relationship is something that we are incredibly protective of and we want to keep it as sacred as possible. We don’t think that we owe it to anyone, it’s our thing, and it has nothing to do with our careers,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.

Holland made another rare comment about Zendaya in a rapid-fire interview with Buzzfeed while promoting his new series The Crowded Room, in which the journalist asked him his secret to having “rizz” – slang for charisma.

“I have no rizz whatsoever. I have limited rizz,” he said. “I don’t know. I need you to fall in love with me, really, for it to work. So, long game.

“Probably making a movie with each other — it definitely helps when the characters you’re playing are falling in love with one another. You can sort of blur the lines a bit.

“That’s kind of where my rizz is at. And, you know, I’m locked up. I’m happy and in love so I’ve got no need for rizz.”
