Star Wars: Rogue One ‘in worse trouble than thought’

THE talk of trouble behind-the-scenes of the new Star Wars spin-off has reached fever pitch, with rumours a new director has been brought in to fix the mess.

THE behind-the-scenes crisis surrounding the upcoming Star Wars spin-off Rogue One has worsened, according to new reports.

The film, which is set for release in December, has been plagued by talk of on-set crises, with the New York Post reporting that it had been forced to go into expensive reshoots in the coming months.

Other reports played down the seriousness of the reshoots, but now fresh reports are emerging that things are so bad on Star Wars: Rogue One that not only is half the movie getting reshot, but a new director has been brought on board and the script is being rewritten.

All this with a trailer already out and the film’s December 16 release date just six months away.

Rogue One is said to have a darker tone than other films in the Star Wars franchise.

Latino Review states nearly half of Star Wars: Rogue One is going to be reshot over the coming months, while Playlist reports that director Tony Gilroy (Bourne Legacy) has been drafted in to oversee the reshoots and supervise the script rewrites, as other outlets report that the film is ‘in worse trouble than first thought.’

“It’s been said the Gareth Edwards version of Star Wars: Rogue One is too dark for Disney’s liking as originally it was going to be a Dirty Dozen-like movie where Rebels go on a suicide mission to steal the Death Star plans and don’t make it out alive. It’s speculated Disney wasn’t happy with that direction and wants to add fun (ala Force Awakens) to the movie,” says Cosmic Book News.

The movie stars Felicity Jones, Mads Mikkelsen, Ben Mendelsohn, Forest Whitaker and Diego Luna. The Star Wars franchise’s first spin-off film will take us back in time to a point between Episodes III and IV. The plot reportedly sees resistance fighters embark on a daring mission to steal the plans for the Death Star before it can be used to enforce the Emperor’s cruel rule.

Last year’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens opened to positive reviews and massive box office success, ending up as the third-highest grossing film of all time, behind only James Cameron’s epics Avatar and Titanic.
