DISNEY helped bring us all back to our love for Star Wars this year. Now it says it is pushing ahead with a new Indiana Jones film.

Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012 for $US4 billion giving it rights to not only Star Wars but also Indian Jones.

Speaking to Bloomberg News, Disney chief executive Bob Iger said a new film about the archeologist would be coming our way.

“With George Lucas’s Star Wars — and Indiana Jones, by the way, which will be coming, we have more great stories,” he said.

Disney has had great success with Star Wars as it became the fastest film to reach $1 billion at the worldwide box office.

It had increased speculation about an Indiana Jones but so far it has refused to comment, only saying that it is focusing on the Star Wars franchise.

Given that Disney had to provide Harrison Ford with a huge payday to reprise his character of Han Solo, hopes are high that he might step back into Indiana Jones’ boots.

Indiana Jones franchise producer Frank Marshall, 70, in October told Total Film that only Ford, 73, could play the heroic archeology professor.

“We’re not doing the Bond thing where we’re going to call somebody else Indiana Jones,” he said.

Steven Spielberg, 69, tried to revive the franchise in 2008 with the fourth Indian Jones film — Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull. However despite the help of Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett and Shia LaBouef playing Ford’s on-screen son, the reviews were lukewarm.

Spielberg also wants Ford on board before he attempts another Indiana Jones movie.

“I am hoping one day to make it to an Indiana Jones V. I would hope to make it before Harrison Ford is 80 and I get much older,” Spielberg told French radio RTL.
