Star reveals gross fact about opening Pitch Perfect scene

The opening scene of the first Pitch Perfect movie is gross enough to watch, but what happened behind the scenes is even more stomach-churning.

The first Pitch Perfect movie is easily the most popular of the franchise, and it certainly went off with a bang.

Or rather, a barf.

Actress Anna Camp, who played Aubrey, is seen leading the Barden Bellas a capella group for their performance of I Saw the Sign, before getting so nervous she vomits all over the microphone and into the crowd.

During a recent Twitter event where fans all tuned into the movie at the same time, using the hashtag #PitchPerfectAtHome, one of the film’s actresses Shelley Regner – who played Ashley – revealed a rather gross detail from behind the scenes.

“Fun fact: we used Anna Camp‘s puke mic in all the performance numbers,” she tweeted. “It wasn't hard to figure out who had the puke mic by the smell.”

Explaining how they made the scene happen, Camp told website Collider she had hoses attached to her face.

“They had a hose hooked up on the side of my face, and then they had a hose hooked up underneath my chin, and there was a stunt guy with a button,” she said. “It was so powerful, and I was so scared. I didn’t know when exactly it was going to come, so I was scared.”

Pitch Perfect, which is available to stream on Australia’s new streaming service Binge, was released in 2012 and made $170 million worldwide, spawning two sequels.

In 2018, Australian actress Rebel Wilson, who plays Fat Amy in the films, addressed calls for a fourth movie, saying there were “some things in the works”, though Universal is yet to confirm any reports.

“There’s some things in the works. I’m sure Universal is going to hate me for saying this,” Wilson said at the time.

“All us Bellas love each other. We just want to work with each other. The girls are just awesome.”

But fellow co-star Brittany Snow, who plays Chloe, told a US talk show in December she knew nothing about potential for another film.

“I would love to tell you that I know, but I know nothing,” she said.

“But we wanted a fourth one and then Rebel kind of teased it like there was going to be a fourth one, but she doesn’t know either,” Snow laughed.
