An image of Taylor Swift seemingly appearing in the upcoming Wicked movie sequel has sent fans into a tizz on social media.
The photo posted by entertainment site Pop Base showed the singing superstar dressed in character as Dorothy for the highly anticipated second film, Wicked: For Good.
“First look at Dorothy, who will be played by Taylor Swift in ‘WICKED: FOR GOOD’,” read a tweet from the site’s official X account, as they shared a photo of Swift sporting classic braids tied with blue bows and Dorothy’s signature checkered blue dress.
However, upon closer inspection, the photo of Swift in front of the Yellow Brick Road appears to be an AI-generated image.
Still, the image sent shockwaves through X with the thought of the pop star joining Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo in the sequel.
“OMG, Taylor Swift as Dorothy?! This is HUGE! I’m so excited, I can barely contain myself! That’s such a fantastic casting choice,” wrote one fan, as another commented, “I mean why not? She can do it.”
“OMGG this is why she didn’t do the rerecordings of reputation because she’s filming Wicked: For Good,” added another, referencing the holdup with Swift re-recording her hit 2017 album Reputation.
Yet another user wondered, “This has the potential to go really good or really bad …”
Other fans joined the AI-train by sharing manipulated images of who they thought would be better as Dorothy. One suggested The Substance star Margaret Qualley, while another hilariously put Jack Black up for nomination.
The character of Dorothy appeared briefly in the first film, seen walking the Yellow Brick Road in one scene. But director John Chu has teased that Dorothy will make more of an appearance in the upcoming movie, which premieres in Aussie cinemas on November 20 with fans given a first look on Thursday when the new trailer was released.
“Well, we definitely did cast Dorothy. You see her in some of our teasers,” he shared with CinemaBlend recently.
“How much of do you see of Dorothy? I’m going to leave people – I can’t confirm or deny how much you see of her.
“I will say that I do think it’s important for, whoever Dorothy is to you, to try to respect that as much as possible. But does The Wizard of Oz and our movie intersect in movie two more than ever? 100 per cent.”
