Drew Barrymore drops wild fact about Charlie’s Angels co-star

The TV host and actress shared a bizarre detail about her Charlie’s Angels co-star Bill Murray on a new episode of her show.

Drew Barrymore had one goal in mind when she attended Saturday Night Live’s 25th anniversary celebration: get Bill Murray to star in Charlie’s Angels.

The actress welcomed her former co-star to The Drew Barrymore Show on Wednesday, where she remembered going to the event 25 years ago.

“It’s funny, too, because I remember literally specifically going to the 25th anniversary with only one mission, funny enough — and it was to find you,” she told the comedy icon. “And I did. And you acknowledged me when you came up and you were singing your opening song and I was so excited because I was like, ‘He knows I’m here.’”

“I was specifically there to find you to beg you to do Charlie’s Angels with us,” Barrymore continued, before turning to the audience and saying, “Bill, you could only reach by calling a payphone, which was so cool.”

Murray then added, “Well, people had coins back then,” to which Barrymore replied, “You acknowledged me and it worked and I was so excited.”

The Saturday Night Live alum — who ended up playing John Bosley in the iconic spy film — infamously clashed with actress Lucy Liu on set.

Liu confirmed reports that Murray had started to “hurl insults” at her during a rehearsal after learning a scene had been reworked without his knowledge, noting that his language was “inexcusable and unacceptable.”

“I was, like, ‘Wow, he seems like he’s looking straight at me.’ I couldn’t believe that [his comments] could be towards me, because what do I have to do with anything majorly important at that time?” she said on the Asian Enough podcast in 2021, per Deadline. “I say, ‘I’m so sorry. Are you talking to me? And clearly he was, because then it started to become a one-on-one communication.”

The star recently told The Guardian that she didn’t regret standing up for herself.

“I would’ve done that in any situation. I think when I sense something is not right, I am going to protect myself. It’s an innate thing to do if you feel there’s injustice, and I always feel that way,” she said.
