Emily Ratajkowski has been branded “ignorant” by her fans, after the model posted a photo that didn’t go down very well online.

Model Emily Ratajkowski is being slammed over a photo that shows both her legs fitting into one leg hole of a pair of jeans that are clearly too big for her.

Ratajkowski, 32, uploaded photos to Instagram from a professional shot for M Le Magazine. Charlotte Collet styled it and the photographer was Oliver Hadlee Pearch.

“Thank you,” she captioned the series of photos.

The photos are beautiful and not particularly remarkable, except for the second one in the series she posted where she stands there with both her legs fitting into a single hole in a pair of jeans that are clearly much too big for her.

If you’ve ever watched a weight loss commercial and seen a woman stand in a pair of jeans that no longer fit her and remark how she can’t believe she used to fit into them, that is the vibe.

The internet was quick to pick up on the fact that it was an odd choice to style a standard-sized model in plus-size jeans that emphasised how thin she was.

Plus-size influencer Tess Holiday immediately commented on the photo and asked Ratajkowski to return her jeans.

“I’ve been looking for those jeans in the second photo if you could please just return them,” she wrote underneath the photo.

The comment section was flooded by plus-size influencers and everyday women sharing how they found the photo tone-deaf and distasteful.

One woman commented that she was frustrated designers would not make plus-size clothing but would make bigger sizes if it could be used as an opportunity for a thin person to take a “quirky” snap.

Another remarked that it was a “strange” photo for someone who had written a whole book about body image.

The commentator referred to Ratajkowski’s book My Body, published in 2021, and a series of personal essays where she discussed her complex relationship with her body.

Most comments featured a theme of women being shocked that this type of photo would be seen as a good idea in 2023.

“The fact a whole team worked on this and thought it was cool is f**ked up,” one declared.

“What in the fat-phobic hell is this?” Another questioned.

“This is weird,” one declared.

While someone else just demanded to know the “reason” behind the creative choice of putting a thin model in pants too large for her.

One person called the photo “trash”, another labelled it “tasteless”, and someone else described it as “ignorant.”

The photo has had such an impact on women on the internet that Ratajkowski fans are still demanding answers under new posts that the model uploads and clearly aren’t ready to move on from the mistake.

“You are not going to address the picture?” one asked.

Another questioned if she was going to ignore her “fat phobic” post, and another said it wasn’t right to just “move on” after that photo was uploaded.

Ratajkowski hasn’t commented.
