Miley’s dig at ex Liam Hemsworth is very on-trend
Miley Cyrus’ Liam Hemsworth jab makes complete sense when you consider how other stars are behaving.

Petty is in, and going with grace is out.
Welcome to 2023. Breakups are about to get even messier, and I’m here for it.
Remember when everyone tried to be very mature about breakups and Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin coined the term “consciously uncoupling”?
Suddenly, celebrities were all acting very sensible and civil.
Even Mariah Carey tolerates Nick Cannon, and he spends his whole life just getting women pregnant. Seriously, he had five children in the past year. (Cannon’s obsession with impregnating women should be illegal but, sadly, is very much not unlawful).
There was a while there where everyone was playing nice. Even when Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck split during allegations he had an affair with their nanny, they stayed publicly friendly. I always found this slightly annoying because suddenly having the perfect break-up was in vogue, and as someone that likes to be a little petty during a break-up, I was definitely not behaving on-trend.
Look, I’m sure it was for the best and all very grown-up, but there’s something about a messy celebrity break-up that can be a little bit fun. So, when Miley Cyrus announced she was dropping her new single on January 13, her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth’s birthday, I was tickled.

While the song has yet to be released, Cyrus has teased some lyrics, including, “I can hold my own hand. I can buy myself flowers. I can love myself better than you can. I can take myself dancing!” So, it isn’t gearing up to be a glowing tribute to an ex.
Some people have slammed Cyrus for not moving on, but who cares that it has been almost three years since their split?
If you want to release a song about your ex on their birthday, why not? This is the kind of messy energy people need to bring into 2023. Plus, it makes me feel better about the fact I’ve never really gotten over anything in my entire life.
But Cyrus isn’t the only celebrity that isn’t going with grace.
Songstress Lana Del Rey made headlines when she promoted her new album by only putting one billboard up in her ex-boyfriend’s hometown.
I mean, coincidence, maybe? Or a complete baller move by Del Rey. In the immortal words of Kelly Clarkson, “Bet it sucks to see my face everywhere. It was you who chose to end it like you did.”
Lana Del Rey putting up 1 billboard to promote her new album, in Tulsa Oklahoma, where her ex lives, is the type of petty that I LIVE for

If that wasn’t enough to get your heart rate up, former Miss Universe Australia Olivia Molly Rogers made influencer history when she posted her official wedding video minus the husband she’d recently split from.
Rogers tied the knot with Justin McKeone in 2022, but they sadly split after seven months of marriage.
Clearly, Rogers wasn’t prepared to just scrap all her wedding footage though and honestly, what a vibe. Rewrite the narrative and don’t miss a chance to share content of you looking fabulous.
It isn’t just celebs being petty. There’s currently a massive trend on TikTok where creators share the ways they haven’t left relationships in grace.
From the completely minor, like making his mum your Facebook friend so she remembers what a lovely girl you are.
To the wild, like a girl driving past her ex-boyfriends house when she knew he would be going for a run and throwing iced coffee on him.
Something is in the air! Maybe everyone is just fed up with playing nice and entering their villain eras.
Why go with grace when you can go out like a wrecking ball?
