LONG before Margot Robbie was cast for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood she was “creeping” in the bushes at the grisly scene years before it became part of the major film set.
Iconic American film maker Quentin Tarantino said there was “only one” person who was the perfect fit to play the late actress Sharon Tate in his new film — and it was Gold Coast golden girl Margot Robbie.

“When I was writing the movie, I never thought about who was going to play Sharon,” he told The Today Show this morning.
“But when I finished it I was like ‘Ok, now I’ve invested all this heart and soul into who Sharon is, who am I going to get to play her?’.
“To me there was only one choice – it was Margot.
“If she hadn’t wanted to do it or she was busy doing something else, I don’t know what I would have done.”

Tarantino added the role was especially fitting for the 29-year-old after finding out about her attachment to one of the famed streets which became a set in the film.
“When she first moved out to California (in 2012) after having done Neighbours and stuff in Australia, she had a buddy and what they would do was sneak up to that private road on Cielo Drive (in Beverly Hills).
“(They would) walk up that private road with the book Helter Skelter and hide in the shadows with a flashlight and read the book to creep themselves out.”

“You did that?” Tarantino proclaimed incredulously.
“And she said ‘Yeah we did it’.
“(I said) ‘so you were on Cielo Drive before we shot there?’ She said ‘yeah, I went with a friend, being a real weirdo creep.”
This is the first time Robbie will have starred in a Tarantino film which is based on the movie industry in Los Angeles in the late 60s and also set at the time of the infamous Manson murders which claimed the life of Tate.
A pregnant Tate was living in Cielo Drive the night the Manson “family” killed her and four other people.
Robbie stars alongside Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio.
