Oscars 2021: Best looks on the red carpet at the Academy Awards

Fresh from the Oscars where she debuted a dramatic makeover, Margot Robbie has unveiled her latest new role.

The Chanel ambassador appears in a stunning new black and white shoot released by the French fashion house days after the movie she produced – Promising Young Woman – won an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.

Australian-born Robbie is the new face of Chanel’s luxury J12 timepiece, starring in a campaign centred around “acknowledging and appreciating time”.

Wearing head-to-toe Chanel, the Birds of Prey star strutted the red carpet at the Academy Awards in Los Angeles this week in her capacity as a producer via her company, LuckyChap Entertainment (Promising Young Woman was nominated for five Oscars, including Best Picture).

Robbie wore a custom Chanel mermaid dress in ennobled metallic lace with a low back, thin straps and three jewelled buttons down the centre.

Chanel said the outfit – which took 205 hours to make – was inspired by one of the dresses in the brand’s 2019/20 couture collection.

At the Oscars, Robbie turned heads debuting a new hair look, with a whispy Charlie’s Angeles-esque fringe and a departure from her usual blonde locks for a shade of “bronde” (aka brown/blonde), courtesy of her go-to hairdresser, Bryce Scarlett.

Last year, Robbie opened up about what prompted her to launch LuckyChap Entertainment as her Hollywood career began to rise. “We never started a company to be a starring vehicle for me or to be a platform for me to chase my dreams,” Robbie told The Hollywood Reporter.

“It was really that we wanted to expand what female stories and female storytellers could do in this industry, and I don’t need to be onscreen for that to happen.

“But it’s a wonderful position to be in since my platform can also open some of those doors.”

Robbie continued: “Especially at the beginning, there were a lot of first- and second-time filmmakers that we wanted to work with, and you can’t get something greenlit without a bankable name attached and I’m so lucky to fall into that bracket. But I’m not right for every role. I felt that way about Promising Young Woman.”

“I was like, ‘I think I’m who people would expect to be cast in this,’” Robbie added, according to E!.

“But the most delightful thing about Promising Young Woman is that it takes you by surprise, and I just felt like I wouldn’t be that surprising — me doing these kinds of things with people’s perception of who I am and the characters that I’ve played.”
