A grand luxury yacht once owned by legendary INXS singer Michael Hutchence is undergoing the ultimate ‘glow up’ before being relaunched for exclusive events and charters in Melbourne.
The Queen Royal, formerly known as Affinity and Eagle One, has been the talk of Queenscliff as it undergoes an exhaustive refit including having a unique and stunning rose gold chrome wrap applied to its hull.
Owners Paige Royal and Matthew Sannen plan to have the 29m golden yacht available for charter out of the Docklands in May through their company Prestige Rentals.
“Every yacht is white and we wanted to do something eye-catching that had never been done before and to our knowledge this is the only rose gold chrome superyacht in the world,” Royal said.
“We went with a wrap over paint as you just can’t get the result that we wanted from paint. This wrap is just so unique, you can see your reflection in it. We love how its appearance changes depending on the lighting and environment.”
Creating a new glorious era for the Queen has been a labour of love for the Melbourne couple.
“The works to the hull alone has taken six months so far and cost us in excess of one million dollars,” Royal said.
“We have used 500 tins of filler and four coats of primer to get this yacht perfectly straight to use the rose gold chrome wrap.”
Sannen and Royal have been hands on through the entire process.
“Once the filling and sanding of the hull was complete it was sprayed with eight coats of different types of paint which was then polished in preparation for the application of the rose gold wrap. The boat was then wrapped for a second time with clean paint protection film,” Sannen said.
“I have a construction management background and have done a lot of the work myself with the help of more than 30 different workers and friends. I have dedicated seven days a week for the last six months to this project.
“Following on from my management background in the Tier 1 construction industry, I saw an opportunity to build something new and meaningful, leading to the creation of Prestige Rentals. I love designing and building things and can’t wait for the next chapter of the Queen Royal, including the complete interior refit.”
Sannen said he hoped the Queen would hold court in Melbourne and be iconic.
“Our vision is to create a versatile and iconic Melbourne experience,” he said.
“We aim to offer a diverse range of occasions, from lively bottomless brunches and fine dining, to vibrant day and nightclub atmospheres. Beyond that, we’re excited to host private charters for special celebrations such as hens and bucks parties, birthdays, engagements, weddings and corporate events.
“Ultimately, we hope The Queen will become a beloved landmark in Melbourne and play a key role in revitalising the vibrant life of Docklands.”
