IF Brooke Evers is the headlining DJ, she’d prefer the Gold Coast to be her dance floor.
The local music sensation is gearing up to perform at the Gold Coast 600 this weekend, and says she relishes any chance to hit the decks on home soil.
“The Gold Coast is my home so whenever I get the chance to play here it means a lot,” she says.
“Not only do my friends and family get to come watch me, but I’m happy to be performing in my home town.
“I have a lot of history with this event too. I’ve been to Indy then GC600 for almost the past 10 years.
“I love it. I think it’s great for the Gold Coast and it just seems to be getting better and better.”
She gets to spin her tracks all over the world, but Brooke has several great reasons why home is where her heart is.
“I’ve just come back from a three month tour of the US and it’s a lot different over there,” she says.
“I feel like Australia, and the Gold Coast in particular, has a lot more of a ‘hands in the air’ type feel. America is more chilled. We have a crazy crowd and it is epic playing here.
“I love when my family are in the DJ box with me too. You don’t get that anywhere else.”
Being a schoolie herself after graduating from Palm Beach Currumbin High School, Brooke has signed on to headline at this year’s Schoolies and is excited to take a trip down memory lane.
“I can’t wait for Schoolies. I’m doing a few shows for that,” she says.
“I performed there about two years ago and it was nuts. It’s so funny playing there when you were a schoolie yourself.
“It’s great for our city and it really does rock. I love it.”
Brooke dates Matt Stafford from Australian DJ power pair The Stafford Brothers, who also hail from our shores.
When CC asked if they’ve ever thought about collaborating, she said flat out, “no”.
“Matt and I will never, ever do a collaboration,” she says.
“We work together and sometimes play the same shows but we’d never make music together.
“There’s really no reason why, it’s just I do my thing and they do theirs.”
Having been together for almost a decade, CC wonders if the couple are pondering a proposal any time soon …
“You’ll have to ask Matt that question,” she laughs.
