Karl Stefanovic and Lisa Wilkinson spotted reuniting after Today feud

All eyes were on the former Today co-hosts as they bumped into each other yesterday, following long-running claims they were no longer friends.

Karl Stefanovic and Lisa Wilkinson have come face-to-face for the first time since the latter revealed they were “not really in touch” anymore after years of friendship.

The former Today co-hosts, who helmed the Channel 9 breakfast show for 10 years before Wilkinson left in 2017, were spotted reuniting at the Logies nominations event on the Gold Coast on Sunday.

They happily posed for photos together at Burleigh Pavilion, while another candid snap showed them laughing and engaging in conversation.

It’s the first time they’ve been seen together since Wilkinson, 62, released her bombshell bookIt Wasn’t Meant To Be Like This, in November, in which she described her “humiliating” dismissal from the network and her estranged relationship with Stefanovic, 47.

In the book, she revealed Stefanovic ignored her for a week in the lead-up to her brutal axing in October 2017, after ditching her 25th wedding anniversary celebration and vow renewal with a last-minute text cancellation.

“Karl and his new partner Jas had been invited but dropped out just two days before via a text to Pete saying that they were extending an overseas trip and wouldn’t be attending,” Wilkinson wrote.

“In the 10 days since, Karl hadn’t contacted me, his co-host of almost 11 years, at all. No phone message, no text, no apology, not even a simple congrats. Just complete silence.”

She said that as their first show back together began, Stefanovic arrived at the desk just in time to go to air leaving no room for small talk, and after filming a prerecorded segment, he was gone in a flash.

“Not a mention. Not a, ‘How was the holiday?’ And certainly no, ‘Sorry about that no-show at the wedding.’ Not … anything,” she wrote.

“What I felt in that instant was hard to put into words. More than anything, I felt just a little bit pathetic. What was this thing Karl and I had between us?

“I’d presumed that along with our work relationship, there was a friendship as well. I must have been wrong.”

Lisa claimed their pay gap was ‘so off the charts that no-one would have believed it’.

The Project co-host departed Nine following a breakdown in pay negotiations, with reports emerging that Stefanovic was earning $2 million, while Wilkinson was reportedly offered $1.8 million.

Former CEO Hugh Marks hit out at Wilkinson in The Daily Telegraph at the time of her dismissal, publicly claiming she wanted $2.3 million – which would have pushed her above Stefanovic’s annual salary.

But Wilkinson’s version of events was very different, with the veteran journalist writing in her book that Stefanovic stood to earn more than double what she was offered.

She said their pay gap was “so off the charts that no-one would have believed it – and much bigger than that figure that had been conveniently leaked”.

Stefanovic has never directly addressed the situation.
