‘You gonna hit my motherf--king brother?’: Chris Rock’s brother slams Will Smith over the Oscars slap

Chris Rock’s brothers have weighed in on Will Smith’s Oscar’ slap — and they didn’t hold back. See what they had to say.

Will Smith resigns from the Academy: “I am heartbroken”

Chris Rock’s family has broken their silence after Will Smith slapped the comedian in the face during the Oscars – and they didn’t hold back.

Tony Rock, one of Chris’s younger brothers, took aim at the King Richard actor during his live show at the PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina on Friday.

In a video shared to social media, Tony hits out at Smith for storming the stage and slapping Chris, over a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s bald head. Pinkett Smith struggles with alopecia.

In a video clip obtained by The Shade Room, Tony – one of Rock’s six siblings – said: “If you think you gonna walk up on this stage, this ain’t the motherf***ing Oscars.”

“And if you walk your a** up here, you ain’t nominated for s*** but these mother******* hands. Oh, we going to pop the rest of the year. Every time you see me do a show, pop!”

Tony admitted he didn’t really want to open his own show by addressing the controversial incident.

But, he added: “You gonna hit my mother******** brother because your b**** gave you a side-eye?”

Rock’s brother Kenny, who has appeared in the sci-fi film Vesuvius and comedy Coincidental Killer, hasn’t spoken directly on the topic, but an Instagram account under his name liked social media messages including, “F THE SMITH FAMILY!! WE SUPPORT THE ROCKS!! YA.LL BETTER MAKE THAT FOOOLLL REGRET IT!!”.

A Twitter account under the name of brother, comedian and actor Jordan Rock retweeted a tweet from another comedian saying Jordan Rock has “gotta f—k up Carlton now,” referring to a character on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, which starred Smith.

The LA Times reports the Twitter account for Jordan Rock was unverified by Twitter and a representative for Jordan Rock did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Smith apologised to Rock after he struck him at the Oscars, conceding that his behaviour was “unacceptable and inexcusable”.

The Hollywood star – who won the Best Actor gong for his role in King Richard – posted an apology on his Instagram.

“Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behaviour at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable,” he said.

“Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally.

WHAT DENZEL DID AFTER OSCARS SLAP

Denzel Washington has broken his silence over Will Smith’s Oscars slap, revealing how he prayed with the star after he slapped Chris Rock.

The veteran actor was seen consoling Smith just minutes after the actor stormed the stage and attacked Rock, before verbally abusing the comedian from the audience.

Smith then referenced Washington his speech when he won the Best Actor Oscar minutes later, saying the star had told him in the immediate aftermath of the slap: “At your highest moment, be careful, that’s when the devil comes for you.”

Washington continued to riff on the “devil” theme in his comments about Smith during a discussion about his career and faith with author and bishop T.D. Jakes at a leadership summit, Variety reports.

“Well, there’s a saying, ‘When the devil ignores you, then you know you’re doing something wrong,’” Washington told the summit.

“The devil goes, ‘Oh no, leave him alone, he’s my favourite,’” he continued. “Conversely, when the devil comes at you, maybe it’s because he’s trying to do something, right? And for whatever reason, the devil got a hold of that circumstance that night.”

The much-loved actor said he and Tyler Perry had prayed with Smith on the side of the Dolby Theatre stage after the King Richard star’s violent outburst.

“Fortunately there were people there,” Washington told the summit. “Not just me, but others, Tyler Perry, came immediately right over there with me. [Said] some prayers.

“I don’t wanna say what we talked about, but there but for the grace of God go any of us.

“Who are we to condemn? I don’t know all the ins and outs of the situation, but I know the only solution was prayer, the way I see it,” Washington said.

‘PUT ON A WIG’: US HOST RIPS INTO JADA

Bill Maher weighed into the Oscars slap controversy, saying that Jada Pinkett Smith should “thank God” that alopecia is the worst she’s dealing with.

“If you are so lucky in life as to have that be your medical problem, just say, ‘thank God,’” HBO’s Real Time host cracked to his guests, lawyer Laura Coates and former presidential and New York City mayoral candidate Andrew Yang, NY Post reports.

“It’s not life threatening. It’s part of — for most people, 80 per cent of men, 50 per cent of women — it’s part of ageing.

“Ageing is, trust me I know, it’s the degradation of the flesh. It happens to all of us,” the 66-year-old political comedian added.

“And you know, just put on a f**king wig like everybody else at the Oscars if it bothers you so much.”

Maher said Will Smith’s viral smackdown of Chris Rock over a joke about Pinkett Smith’s bald head exposed ugly “aspects of society,” like “toxic masculinity, victim culture and liberal hypocrisy”.

The comic’s guests agreed they were distressed that a theatre full of “woke” movie stars would stand and applaud Smith’s best actor trophy moments after his attack.

“I remember as a prosecutor prosecuting quite a few assault and batteries and they didn’t stand by and be like, ‘No no I’ve got the rest of my kid’s soccer game, I gotta stay for this,’” Coates said.

“So the fact that he was there to be like ‘here’s my award’ in and of itself was shocking, let alone a standing ovation.” Yang said he thought Smith would have had a thicker skin.

“I do feel like it’s part of the job of a world famous celebrity attending an award show to absorb mild insults directed at you and yours,” the businessman-turned-Democrat said.

“I ran for office and people said things around me I didn’t like and I didn’t get up and smack anyone.”

SMITH RESIGNS FROM ACADEMY

On Saturday, Smith resigned from the Oscars Academy, in the wake of the controversy.

“I am resigning from membership in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and will accept any further consequences the Board deems appropriate,” the actor wrote in a statement on Saturday.

Earlier in the week the Academy had given Smith 15 days notice of a vote on the issue.

Smith said he was “heartbroken” over the incident and “betrayed the trust of the Academy”.

“I have directly responded to the Academy’s disciplinary hearing notice. My actions at the 94th Academy Awards presentation were shocking, painful, and inexcusable,” Smith said.

“The list of those I have hurt is long and includes Chris, his family, many of my dear friends and loved ones, all those in attendance, and global audiences at home. I betrayed the trust of the Academy.

“I deprived other nominees and winners of their opportunity to celebrate and be celebrated for their extraordinary work. I am heartbroken. I want to put the focus back on those who deserve attention for their achievements and allow the Academy to get back to the incredible work it does to support creativity and artistry in film.

“So, I am resigning from membership in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and will accept any further consequences the Board deems appropriate.

“Change takes time and I am committed to doing the work to ensure that I never again allow violence to overtake reason.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Smith’s resignation means he can no longer vote for the Oscars — but he can still be nominated for future Academy Awards, attend future ceremonies and keep the statue he won. Still, the Academy’s formal review will continue.
