Jerry Seinfeld bringing new show here to ’some of the greatest comedy fans in the world’

Comedian Jerry Seinfeld has revealed whether he will bring his new stand-up show to Australia next year.

Jerry Seinfeld is bringing a new show to Australia in 2024.

Revered comedian Jerry Seinfeld will tour Australia next year for the first time in seven years.

The hugely successful stand-up, actor, author and filmmaker was the hottest ticket in town when he last visited in 2017, selling out arenas around the country and playing to an estimated 140,000 people.

He first toured here the same year his eponymous sitcom screened its controversial final episode after nine wildly successful seasons and 180 episodes.

“I have loved Australia since my first tour there in 1998, and I cannot wait to come back to visit some of the greatest comedy fans in the world,” Seinfeld said.

The funny man will play Perth’s RAC Arena on June 15; Qudos Bank Arena, Sydney, June 16; Brisbane Entertainment Centre, June 19; Adelaide Entertainment Centre, June 20; Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne, June 22 and 23. Tickets will go on sale Friday, November 17, at noon through tegdainty.com

Promoter Paul Dainty said his office was “besieged” with calls last time Seinfeld was here, from fans desperate to secure tickets after the shows sold out almost instantly. He said he was “thrilled” to have the comedian return with a new show.

“He is, without a doubt, the world’s most renowned and accomplished stand-up comedian,” Dainty said. “This tour provides an opportunity for Australians to witness the mastery of his craft.”

Seinfeld has been one of the world’s most in-demand comedians for more 40 years since his breakout performance on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. His self-titled sitcom, created with Larry David, won 10 Primetime Emmy Awards and three Golden Globes, and was named the greatest television show of all time in 2009 by US TV Guide.

While the show wrapped up 25 years ago – with a divisive finale that saw the four main characters locked-up in jail – Seinfeld recently teased that viewers might see Jerry, George (Jason Alexander), Elaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) and Kramer (Michael Richards) again.

When asked a question about whether he liked the last episode at a stand-up show in Boston last month, he said: “Well, I have a little secret for you about the ending. But I can’t really tell it because it is a secret.

“Here’s what I’ll tell you, OK, but you can’t tell anybody. Something is going to happen that has to do with that ending. Hasn’t happened yet. And just what you are thinking about, Larry and I have also been thinking about it. So you’ll see, we’ll see.”

Seinfeld’s other successful projects include the 2007 animated hit Bee Movie, Broadway show Colin Quinn Long Story Short, web series Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee and three best-selling books: Is this Anything?, Seinlanguage, and The Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee Book. He has also co-written, directed, produced and will star alongside Melissa McCarthy, Amy Schumer and Hugh Grant in the coming comedy movie Unfrosted: The Pop Tart Story.
