Jennifer Aniston reveals ‘allergic reaction’ on set of Murder Mystery 2 with Adam Sandler

Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler have teamed up again for the sequel to their popular Netflix film, but things didn’t go to plan during filming on one intense scene.

Jennifer Aniston has revealed she suffered a worrying scare on the set of Netflix's Murder Mystery 2.

Adam Sandler is the first to concede his co-star, Jennifer Aniston, was the only one prepared for the high-energy stunts and sequences on their latest Netflix film.

The Hollywood duo have reunited for their third movie together in Murder Mystery 2, a follow-up to their breakout 2019 whodunit which debuts on the platform today.

And while the sequel bears all the twists and turns of the original, the physicality has been revved up a fair few notches, from car chase scenes thwarting bad guys across Paris, to one particularly death-defying sequence atop the Eiffel Tower.

“[Aniston] has been preparing [her] whole life for this, because [she’s] in good shape,” Sandler told news.com.au. “She doesn’t have to prepare. This girl’s amazing. She works out every day and she takes care of her body. I, on the other hand, had a lot of preparation and I had to get there quick.”

Still, Aniston’s physical fitness wasn’t going to help her avoid an unpredictable on-set scare.

In one particularly nailbiting scene, their characters, married couple Nick and Audrey Spitz, are faced with escaping a rapidly sweeping building fire. While filming the scene, Aniston revealed she suffered a ghastly reaction to the smoke.

“The burning castle … They do atmosphere smoke. So you had the fire fumes and then the atmosphere fumes, [and] I had some weird allergic reaction and my eyes, like, just wouldn’t open,” Aniston said.

“It was great for the scene, but the next day wasn’t so bueno.”

Aniston said the reaction was so bad, she was out of action for a full day of shooting while she recovered.

“I had the day off. I didn’t work the next day because my eyes swelled up,” she said. “But I got rid of it. I took an antihistamine.”

Sandler, 56, and Aniston, 54, represent an era of Hollywood that’s often considered to be dying – that of the movie star being the selling point as opposed to the franchise (think Marvel, Harry Potter).

It makes them somewhat of a dream on-screen duo in the rapidly changing cinemascope.

Off-screen, the pair have been friends for years, having first teamed up in the feel-good 2011 rom-com, Just Go With It.

Their chemistry – one that is more relatable rather than tantalising – is their key charm as co-stars, and takes little effort on their part.

“It feels seamless,” Aniston said of their connection.

“We feel very comfortable hanging out together and very comfortable trying to make each other laugh,” Sandler added. “And like a married couple, we definitely know a lot of stuff from years ago. A lot of stuff from a couple days ago. We know each other very well.”

With careers as sprawling and wide-ranging as theirs, it’s fair to wonder what could possibly be next for them individually.

As for Sandler, he’s dying to see Aniston share the screen with fellow ’90s golden girl Julia Roberts. The dream duo are signed on to star in a body swap comedy for Amazon Studios, produced by Margot Robbie’s production company, LuckyChap.

Aniston teased of the tightly under-wraps project, “There’s so many actors and actresses that I’m [still] dying to work with, but yes, that’s the one that’s cooking at the moment.”

Amid that, Aniston recently decided to enter the booming beauty space with her haircare brand LolaVie, finally taking charge on what has long been her trademark (we all asked for ‘the Rachel’ at the hairdresser at some point).

The Friends alum promised that the all-natural line, which launched overseas in 2021, is on track to be available in Australia soon.

“That’s happening. It’s in the mail!” she said.

“It’s good stuff, it softens the hair,” Sandler added.
