Radio host Jackie O copped a grilling on-air today about the plans for her multimillion-dollar mansion in Sydney’s eastern suburbs – and confessed that one of the more OTT design elements has been nixed.
It was in March last year that Jackie O snapped up a six-bedroom home in Clovelly, overlooking Gordon’s Bay, for $13.25m – $1.25m over the reserve.
While it went for an eye-watering price, the property is an older 1960s brick building, and Jackie O later lodged plans to build a brand new home on the site at an estimated cost of more than $5m.
Jackie O’s co-host Kyle Sandilands ribbed her about the yet-to-be-built mansion live on The Kyle and Jackie O Show this morning.
“Didn’t the architect tell you you have to get rid of – listen to this, everyone – the ‘wellness centre level?’” he asked.
Jackie insisted that it was “not as fancy as it sounds,” explaining that she was trying to include “an ice bath and a sauna” on the new home’s bottom level, near the pool.
But her co-host wasn’t letting go that easily.
“What did they write? What did they call that on the document?” he asked of the house plans.
“The wellness centre,” Jackie admitted. .
“Exactly, so I’m right! Wellness centre, not so good. Struck off.”
Jackie confirmed that that particular detail of the new home had been “ditched. It’s gone. The whole level is gone!”
The Daily Telegraph reports that Jackie O plans to bring an “Amalfi Coast” vibe to Clovelly with the new four-bedroom home, designed by architect Madeleine Blanchfield.
While the “wellness centre” didn’t survive the planning stage, her new digs will sit across three storeys with a central courtyard plus pool, rainwater tank and double garage.
One of the highest-paid media personalities in Australia, Jackie O previously sold her Woollahra home in early 2023 for $12.5m, having bought it for $11m in 2020 following her separation from husband Lee Henderson.
Meanwhile, perhaps Jackie O could invite one new celeb friend to her house-warming: Earlier this week, she was the one bright spot in British comedian David Walliams’ very awkward 25-minute Monday appearance on The Kyle and Jackie O Show.
Walliams and Sandilands clashed repeatedly through the interview, constantly sniping at each other as Walliams instead directed his answers to Jackie.
