How Jimmy Barnes became synonymous with ‘pingers’

IF you hear people throwing around the term ‘Barnsey’, don’t automatically assume they’re Jimmy Barnes fans. Things could go downhill rapidly. Catch up on this hilarious tale and more Glitter Strip gossip.

Jimmy and Jane: the love story

A WARNING to fans of Fat Pizza heading along to see Jimmy Barnes and friends perform at new outdoor music festival Under the Southern Stars at Broadwater Parklands in Southport today.

If you hear the crowd chanting ‘Barnsey, Barnsey’ don’t make the same mistake Pauly Falzoni (Pauly Fenech) and co. did when they attended a B and S ball in an infamous episode of the SBS comedy TV series.

The Fat Pizza crew’s secret code name for ‘pingers’ — ecstasy pills — was ‘Barnseys’.

So when ballgoers wanted some ‘Barnsey’, the Fat Pizza city slickers happily obliged — and supplied. Cue cowboy mayhem.

Gates for today’s show open at 1pm. Tickets are available at the gate but there are no pass outs.

HE made no secret of the fact he’d love to see Pink help the city christen its new Home of the Arts — but got atheist comedian and musical genius Tim Minchin instead.

All That Glitters hears Mayor Tom Tate was not at all amused to learn the brains behind Come Home Cardinal Pell had been locked in as HOTA’s first marquee act on March 17.

EAVESDROP

A matter of minutes after Mayor Tom Tate had told media gathered for Wednesday’s HOTA launch that Black Swan Lake was a “made up” name and that the water feature wasn’t even a lake, his Chief of Staff contradicted the comment — using the Mayor’s own words.

“As Tom said ‘look, I don’t know if people like the name of a horse when you first name a horse but once it starts racing and winning races, everyone loves the name’,” said Mr Moran (pictured, below) (who movie buffs have pointed out bears a striking resemblance to the late Vincent Schiavelli, the actor who played Subway Ghost in the hit 1990 film Ghost (pictured, above).

So Black Swan Lake it is?

“No, we’re talking about HOTA,” Mr Moran replied.

HOTA — our beautiful new Home of the Arts. It really is something we should all be proud of — and it’s not done yet. Even better, Mayor Tom Tate ruled out selling off the naming rights to HOTA’s Outdoor Stage — a pledge that hasn’t stopped some ratepayers from referring to it as the Bruce Bishop Outdoor Stage.

Stu Laundy. Fancy wasting all our time pretending to be invested in settling down (again) and starting a family with our Sophie Monk — especially when he’s had the snip. We’re dirty Laundy!
