GOLD Coast former breakfast radio king Richard Fowler is back — for a week anyway.

He is joining forces with fellow veteran of the airwaves and Main Beach mate, AJ, for a breakfast radio cameo as the “Tedder Boys”.

AJ who usually does Gold FM’s 9am to 1pm show is filling Bridge and Spida’s 5am to 9am slot while the pair take the next month off.

For the first week, starting this morning, Mr Fowler will join him but at the more gentlemanly hour of 6am.

“I told AJ I’m not doing the first hour, I’m not turning up at 5am. He can do the first hour on his own,” Mr Fowler said.

Mr Fowler said he was looking forward to a brief break from his retirement which has consisted of spending more quality time with wife Sherie, who he married earlier this year, and looking after his elderly mother back in New Zealand.

It would be the first time he shared a mic with AJ because previously there was not enough room in the studio for both of their egos, the pair told the Gold Coast Bulletin.

“AJ and I will be a good mix because I bring the class and he is a Tasmanian bogan,” Mr Fowler said.

AJ, who lives in the same Main Beach tower as Mr Fowler, said he looked forward to plenty of on-air banter with his good mate and understood him needing to start later at 6am.

“Now that he is nearly in a retirement home it takes him an extra hour to get out of bed,” he said.

Richard Fowler has gone to great heights for his work in radio and for charity.
