SHE’S a Gold Coast supermum. Single mother-of-three Karin Jansma has transformed her body in four months from what she described as “gross” to winning a national fitness title and making podiums in bikini categories.
The 33-year-old is inspiring fellow single mums as she eyes a trip to the international Fitness America champs in Las Vegas next month.
Ms Jansma said a spur for her success was her kids piling into bed most mornings.
HE SAVED THREE LIVE IN ONE DAY
She said her two daughters, 11 and 9, and son, 4, often crawled in. It forced her to get up by 5.30am so she installed an exercise bike by her bed to encourage a workout.
“It makes me want to get up early because I’m squashed in,” she said.
“I would jump on the bike before they wake up and smash out half an hour. It’s all about getting into a routine and getting past the standard excuses — I’m too old, my body is stretched, I’m too busy, too tired.
“At the start I thought I’ve had kids, I’m gross, all this negative self-talk. I could have gone downhill but for my kids I wanted to create a happy, positive vibe.”
Ms Jansma hit the bike every morning on an empty stomach to get her metabolism firing, hit the gym four times a week and took advice from Gold Coast dietitian Mark Robinson and 360 Health trainer Rob Quattro.
She has set up a GoFundMe page to crowd fund part of the cost of the Vegas trip, which she estimates will be $5000.
