Gold Coast band Eliza & The Delusionals win gong at Queensland Music Awards

A Gold Coast band have picked up a top gong at the prestigious Queensland Music Awards.

GOLD Coast band Eliza & The Delusionals picked up a top gong at the prestigious Queensland Music Awards tonight.

Eliza Klatt, Ruby Lee, Kurt Skuse and Ashley Martin claimed the rock award for their single Just Exist.

The band could not collect the award in person at the Fortitude Music Hall in Brisbane as they are in the US, but guitarist Kurt Skuse told the Bulletin the first win was “surreal”.

“We are on our first ever international tour with (alternative US band) Silversun Pickups,” he said.

“We were asked to do an acceptance speech on the tour bus. We didn’t put hope on, we didn’t have a feeling. We’ve never won anything before.

“It feels so surreal. Especially being in LA right now. We’re playing about 50 to 60 shows almost every night on the tour (for two months).

“People are singing our songs and we’re signing things. It’s a very surreal feeling because we don’t feel any different. with our personal selves.”

The band formed in 2015 after frontwoman Eliza Klatt started off solo before joining with school friend Mr Skuse, Ashley Martin and newly joined Ruby Lee. Last year Eliza & The Delusionals signed with record label Cooking Vinyl who also manage Parkway Drive, The Chats and The Dandy Warhols.

Last year they performed at their biggest gig to date, supporting Gold Coast golden girl Amy Shark at the city’s 60th birthday bash at Broadwater Parklands.

They have also supported artists such as Grinspoon, Nothing But Thieves, Dear Seattle and Killing Heidi, as well as performed at BIGSOUND and Falls Festival.

In 2017, Amy Shark picked up three gongs at the Queensland Music Awards.
