Georgia Love’s ‘nasty’ tweet about MAFS couple Bryce Ruthven and Mel Rawson

Former Bachelorette Georgia Love was forced to backpedal after poking fun at MAFS couple Bryce and Mel, with followers labelling her a “bully”.

Followers piled on Georgia Love after the Seven News reporter tweeted a “nasty” comment about MAFS stars Bryce and Mel following their pregnancy announcement on Monday.

The former Bachelorette was eventually forced to delete her tweet after an avalanche of criticism – with many pointing out her hypocrisy given she’s had a strong stance against online bullying in the past.

Love, 32, had mocked MAFS ‘villain’ Bryce in the couple’s New Idea cover shoot sharing that they’re engaged and expecting twins.

“Siri, show me the face of ‘I’ve taken it too far’,” Love wrote to followers.

Many interpreted the comment as Love inferring Mel and Bryce’s relationship is merely a “showmance”, with the Channel 7 star quick to set them straight.

“It was a joke about the funny expression on his face. Calm down,” she wrote in response to one critic.

While she insisted her tweet wasn’t weighing in on the legitimacy of their relationship, nor was it a joke about their unborn children, Love eventually removed the tweet altogether.

Love met her now-husband, Lee Elliott, on her season of The Bachelorette, and has faced her fair share of online trolling since her reality TV stint. Many called out her double standards for taking aim at the Channel 9 stars.

“Georgia, you and Lee were my favourite couple on the bachelorette. But I really hope when your time comes that no one makes such a nasty comment. You of all people know how edited shows are. For you to judge someone based on what was on TV is plain wrong,” one said.

“How about just be kind?” another tweeted.

Similar tweets included: “You are just as bad being an online troll and bully. Not nice at all” and “No need to shame people!”

In December, Love took a break from Twitter after being slammed for a “tone deaf” post about buying a house with Elliott, sharing that they’d also “launched two businesses … during a global pandemic”.

Citing alleged “death threats” in response to the post, Love quit the platform entirely.

It came after she’d been at the receiving end of backlash for complaining about her wedding being cancelled last year.

Speaking with Body+Soul in 2017, Love said she feels strongly about calling out online trolls to stand up for others who can’t.

“I feel like I am the kind of person who needs to call these people out, because there are others who are feeling extremely affected by things that are said online. I don’t know how we make it stop, but we need to, it’s just horrible.”

As for Bryce and Mel, the controversial MAFS couple are engaged and expecting twins.

Three months after they decided to stay together on the show’s finale amid wild protest from viewers over the portrayal of their relationship, they shared the surprise family news in a cover shoot with New Idea.

In the announcement interview, Bryce admitted the sudden life milestones “all happened very fast”.

After copping widespread criticism during his time on the show for what viewers saw as “manipulative” behaviour, Bryce also told the publication the couple were now just looking to the future.

“We’re not doing this for anybody else, it’s about us – we’re cementing our love,” he said.

Bryce and Mel’s pairing was at the centre of a petition forcing Channel 9 to apologise for “creating a distressing viewing experience”, as well as its failure to “showcase that the relationship is clearly not healthy”.
