‘Full time liar’: How fake Gold Coast celeb landed TV stint on I’m a Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here

The Gold Coast is home to plenty of B-list and C-list celebrities, but a ‘normal guy’ has revealed how he faked his way onto a reality TV show without even being Instafamous.

A GOLD Coaster who was hired as a stand-in on a reality show has scored one of the biggest breaks in Aussie TV history.

David Subritzky has scored a gig as a “fake celebrity” on the new season of I’m A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!

Originally from the UK, Mr Subritzky held a string of jobs while living on the Gold Coast and in Melbourne, including a retail worker, nightclub host, social media manager and event emcee.

He then got hired as a stand-in or “extra” on a previous season of I’m A Celebrity, which involved testing out camera angles and lighting before the real celebrities were filmed.

His hilarious antics left such an impression on the crew they invited him back for the 2022 season - but with a major twist.

Mr Subritzky poses as a fake celebrity shoe designer in the jungle.

Poh Ling Yeow is the only real celeb to know he isn’t the real deal but must convince the rest of the camp that he is.

For every day they keep the lie going, they win a reward for the whole camp.

Mr Subritzky admitted he never yearned to be in the spotlight.

“It was the funniest experience when I got offered the job,” he said.

“I was just so excited. What normal person gets offered an opportunity to do I’m A Celebrity.

“I’m just a normal guy from the UK and the Gold Coast.”

He signed up for the gig to take advantage of a “fun opportunity” and meet new people.

He has never done any acting work, but now considers himself a “method actor” or “full time liar” due to his ability to fool the celebrities in the jungle.

“I didn’t really have a strategy going in. It was just lie after lie,” he admitted.

As for life after the jungle, Mr Subritzky doesn’t think his new found fame will go to his head.

“I think I will still just be me,” he said.

The eighth season of I’m a Celebrity has a diverse group of famous camp mates swap their comfortable lives for a no-frills jungle experience.

Beau Ryan, Emily Seebohm and Nathan Buckley are some of the other stars who appear in the latest season.

The show continues Tuesday night from 7.30pm on Channel 10.
