AQUAMAN is back and buffer than ever.
The first image of Jason Momoa in the Gold Coast-made film Aquaman have been released, showing off a different side to the character than that which debuted just a few weeks ago in Justice League.
The image, published by US magazine Entertainment Weekly, shows the aquatic hero sporting more tattoos and looking intense in an industrial or military setting.
The film, directed by James Wan, was shot on the Gold Coast earlier this year and is due for release in late 2018.
It will be Momoa’s third appearance as the Atlantean character following a cameo in Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice and this year’s Justice League.
In an interview with the magazine, Momoa reveals how different his solo film will be to the team movie.
“Justice League was only a weekend in Arthur Curry’s life,” he told Entertainment Weekly.
“This is a totally different beast. In Aquaman, you see when his parents met and what happened to hem.
“Then the little boy being raised and finding his powers and going through that and never being accepted on either side.
“And then becoming this man who puts up all these walls. You just slowly see this man harden up and be completely reluctant wanting to be king and not knowing what to do with these powers he has. I think James Wan just killed it.”
