HUNDREDS of blues music fans woke with the birds to make sure they didn’t miss out on the chance to see ARIA-winning Aussie muso Russell Morris play a free live show at The Star Gold Coast.
Morris will perform a free show in The Star Theatre on Friday, May 19, as part of this year’s Blues on Broadbeach festival.
Fans began queuing at The Star from 5am to make the most of the chance to secure a free ticket when the box office opened at 9am.
Morris’s show marks the second time the venue has held a free event in its state-of-the art theatre as part of the four-day festival following Diesel’s performance last year.
“We’re really delighted with the quality of performer they are putting in there,” Broadbeach Alliance CEO Jan McCormick said.
BLUES ON BROADBEACH: THE COUNTDOWN’S ON
“Ruseel Morris is an iconic name in blues now thanks to his recording a couple of years back.
“The Star are a wonderful partner for the precinct and have been really accommodating.
“They sponsor our substantial media launch and it was their suggestion they put this (free concert) on.”
Morris is becoming a regular at Blues on Broadbeach after his ARIA award for best blues and roots album in 2013 for Sharkmouth.
Morris will perform a show in the Broadbeach festival precinct on Friday, May 19, before he heads over the road to play for 1500 people in The Star Theatre at 9pm.
Morris will be supported by international soul, roots and blues performer Charlie A’ Court.
A shuttle bus will offer festival-goers transport throughout Broadbeach over the four-day event.
The final tickets for Morris’s Star show will be released at 9am on May 18.
