Drew Barrymore spills on infamous Charlie’s Angels feud

Drew Barrymore has opened up about the explosive on-set fight between two of her co-stars that saw one of them quit the franchise.

Drew Barrymore is finally spilling the tea on the bust-up between her co-stars Lucy Liu and Bill Murray that occurred on the set of Charlie’s Angels in 2000.

The actress, 46, dished details about the spat during this week’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show — three months after Liu addressed the incident during a podcast interview.

“Lucy is out there right now talking about her instance with Bill Murray,” Barrymore said, before teasing: “Do you want to know what happened? Do you want me to spill the tea?”

The Never Been Kissed star went on to recount what occurred on set, saying: “What really happened was Bill was just in a — you know, comedians can be a little dark sometimes — and he just came in a bad mood.”

“What you have to know is how much Lucy stood up for herself and that was the great thing that came out of an unfortunate circumstance,” she continued. “She literally said, ‘I do not accept that kind of behaviour from you.’ And we all supported her and backed her up and we moved forward.”

Liu “stood up for herself” against Murray, according to Barrymore.

Barrymore further explained that she still supports Liu, 52, saying she recently made “a whole video and sent it to her to back her up.”

Murray, 71, did not appear in the 2003 Charlie’s Angels sequel, with comedian Bernie Mac stepping in to replace him.

The Post has reached out to Murray’s camp for comment on the new claims from Barrymore.

In July, Liu spoke candidly about the on-set incident, which made worldwide news in 2000.

The actress told the Los Angeles Times’ “Asian Enough” podcast that she and Murray were rehearsing for a scene that had been reworked while he was away at a family gathering.

“As we’re doing the scene, Bill starts to sort of hurl insults, and I won’t get into the specifics,” Liu alleged during the podcast, “but it kept going on and on. I was, like, ‘Wow, he seems like he’s looking straight at me.’”

“I say, ‘I’m so sorry, are you talking to me?’ And clearly he was, because then it started to become a one-on-one communication,” she continued. “Some of the language was inexcusable and unacceptable, and I was not going to just sit there and take it.”

Liu did not go into the specific details of what was said.

Liu went on to say that she does not regret firing back at Murray, stating: “No matter how low on the totem pole you may be or wherever you came from, there’s no need to condescend or to put other people down. And I would not stand down, and nor should I have.”

However, the Elementary star admitted that she now has “nothing against” Murray more than two decades on from their feud and that he was “perfectly nice” when she bumped into him at a taping of Saturday Night Live.

Murray did not respond in the wake of Liu’s podcast claims. However, he gave his side of the on-set spat during an interview with the Times of London in 2009.

“Look, I will dismiss you completely if you are unprofessional and working with me,” he said. “When our relationship is professional, and you’re not getting that done, forget it.”
