SURFERS Paradise has its very own royal family, but there’s no princes or kings – just queens.
The Avenue has started Dragalicious, Thursday night cabaret-style drag shows starring Natasha St James and Terry Daktyl — and owner Michael Russo says it’s anything but a drag.
“The atmosphere is just unbelievable. There would have been a time where drag shows wouldn’t have been socially acceptable people are just loving it.
“We’re not a gay nightclub, but we’re accommodating so many different varieties of people – straight, gay, older people, couples – everyone feels welcome and relaxed.”
Entry and two drinks is $20, or dinner, show and drinks is $40.
Adding drag shows to The Avenue’s line-up makes it one of the most diverse venues on the Gold Coast.
“We’ve got comedy nights on Wednesday, karaoke on Monday, jazz on Sundays,” Mr Russo said.
“I’m always trying to do something different. It’s a reason to get people out and enjoying themselves.”
