The Scottish-born, NYC-based artist will perform songs from his incisive new album American Utopia, classics from his solo career and golden oldies from the Talking Heads catalogue, which includes the hits Once In A Lifetime, Burning Down The House and This Must Be The Place.
Byrne’s first solo album in 14 years, American Utopia was released in March. The album includes the singles Everybody’s Coming To My House and Every Day Is A Miracle, both co-written with Brian Eno, and contributions from TTY, Happa, Isaiah Barr (Onyx Collective), Daniel Lopatin (Oneohtrix Point Never) and Mercury Prize winner Sampha.
“I’ve made a record that just has my name on it but is also the result of the contributions of many other people,” Byrne said.
“I suspect that like me, it is asking what are we like, what do we want, and what are we looking for?”
An unpredictable visual and musical artist extraordinaire, his unique new theatrical show, choreographed by Annie-B Parson, received glowing reviews from fans and critics at this year’s Coachella.
Byrne has called his new show “the most ambitious show I’ve done since the shows that were filmed for Stop Making Sense”.
Annie-B Parson also choreographed the St. Vincent and David Byrne collaboration tour around Love This Giant.
Byrne’s Gold Coast tour stop follows Bryan Adams’ show there for Frontier Touring in January.
Frontier Touring founder and head Michael Gudinski told the Bulletin at the time he hoped to put more acts into the venue over summer.
Mr Gudinski, who brought Kings of Leon to the Convention Centre in 2011, said he’d bring more leading acts to the Coast venue if Adams’ gig sold out — which it did.
“If that happens, I’ll be coming back there with something every summer at that time of the year,” he told The Bulletin.
David Byrne plays the Gold Coast Convention Centre on November 21.
Tickets go on sale on Monday, June 18, at noon.
