Waleed Aly has made a big call about Australia’s future.

The Project host spoke to news.com.au on the red carpet at the Logies and was asked to answer one of the 50 questions featured in The Great Aussie Debate: Should Australia become a republic?

“I think so … I’ve supported a republic all along,” Aly said, before adding, “but I doubt that we ever will.

“We’ve got three different opinions, really. There’s monarchists, and then the republicans are split between ‘direct election’ and ‘appointment’,” the Channel 10 star explained.

“It’s very hard to win a referendum when you’ve got three positions, so I would like to see us become a republic but I’m not overwhelmingly optimistic about it.”

Aly was just one of the TV personalities who answered a question from news.com.au’s The Great Aussie Debate on the Logies red carpet.

Aussie celebs weigh in on the questions dividing the nation

More than 46,000 Australians have taken part in the national survey which launched two weeks ago. It features a mix of serious and silly questions on everything from the Indigenous Voice to parliament and climate change to whether it is OK to use your phone while you’re on the toilet.

news.com.au grilled Australia’s hottest celebrities on the Logies red carpet and got them to settle the debates dividing the nation.

Comedian Tom Gleeson – Is it OK to wear thongs on a plane?

“I think that’s a definite no. That’s not right, it’s not a good look and it’s imposing on other people. I haven’t flown economy in a long time, I sit up the front, and we all have our shoes on (laughs).”

Radio and TV star Abbie Chatfield – Do you use your phone on the toilet?

“Yes, am I not meant to? I text, I scroll, I FaceTime, I do everything.”

Comedian Matt Okine – Do you use your phone on the toilet?

“Absolutely, that’s where I use my phone the most. My time on the toilet lasts about 80 per cent more than it needs to because of my phone. I can’t believe how quickly people must have gone to the toilet back in the day. They must have just been in and out. Sometimes I go to the toilet just to use my phone.”

Radio host Jackie O – Is it ever OK to discipline someone else’s child?

“I think if you’re an aunty, yes, but if you’re just a friend (unless you’re the best friend) then no, it’s not OK. There are limits. Best friends, aunties and relatives can, but anything outside of that, no way.”

Singer Jessica Mauboy – Should men be allowed to wear shorts in the office?

“I think it’s OK. Sometimes we all need a little bit of airing. I think if you feel comfortable, you should do it.”

Comedian Kate Langbroek – How often do you wash your bed sheets?

“Probably every two weeks. I think it should be once a week but I just don’t have the ticker for it.”
