IT’S ATTENDED by everyone from models to actors and even reality TV stars.
But not everyone is welcomed at the Met Gala with open arms, with several high profile celebrities finding themselves banned from attending.
US Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour personally approves the 600-plus guest list, overseeing everything from what time attendees arrive to where they sit.
Despite the event’s exclusivity tickets don’t come cheap, costing an eye-watering $364,581 for a table and individual seats for $39,772.
During an appearance on The Late Late Show With James Corden last October, Wintour didn’t miss a beat in naming which celebrity wouldn’t be invited to the 2018 Met Gala.
“Who would you never invite back to the Met Gala?” Cordon asked.
“Donald Trump,” she replied.
The New York real estate tycoon has attended the ball numerous times, most recently with third wife Melania Trump in 2012.
It’s possible that Mr Trump’s invitation to the annual ball may have gotten lost in the mail following his election as United States President in 2016.
Another celebrity reportedly banned from attending is Project Runway judge and fashion critic Tim Gunn.
The reality TV star told E! show Fashion Police in 2016 that he had been black-listed from the event after recounting a story about Wintour to the New York Post.
“I was asked what is the most unforgettable thing I have seen in fashion. I said, ‘It’s easy, it’s watching Anna Wintour being carried down five flights of stairs by two bodyguards, two big hulking body guards, from a fashion show’,” Gunn said.
“All hell broke loose, it was insane. So we have had an open war ever since.”
Other celebrities rumoured to have been disinvited over the years include celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe and supermodel Coco Rocha.
“I don’t know. You’ll have to ask Anna that,” Rocha told Page Six after not receiving an invite to the ball in 2017.
Rocha’s lack of invitation was reportedly due to her comments about Katy Perry — one of that year’s Gala chairs — wearing the model’s 2013 Met Ball dress to the MTV Awards.
The model also did not attend this year’s Met Gala.
