Myer Spring 16: Christian Wilkins and gal pal Francesca Packer steal the show

RICHARD Wilkins’ son Christian has graduated from daddy’s plus-one to full-blown ‘It Boy’, rubbing shoulders with A-listers including the late Kerry Packer’s granddaughter Francesca.

RICHARD Wilkins’ son Christian has graduated from daddy’s plus-one to full-blown “It Boy”.

The 21-year-old, who has been accompanying his famous father to events since he was a tot, was until recently known as his entertainment reporter dad’s pink-haired sidekick at events.

However these days the sweet and ethereal Channel 9 social media manager is instead rubbing shoulders with A-listers including the late Kerry Packer’s granddaughter Francesca and is considered part of the city’s rat pack.

On Tuesday night the refreshingly and unashamedly confident Wilkins descended on Myer’s Spring 16 parade sporting long, blonde locks which would put Rapunzel to shame, a sheer white lace shirt and tight black pants as he made his way up and down the ruby rug with Packer.

His carefree attitude means the haters are quick to criticise, but Wilkins is fast to hit back.

occasionally have a couple of people commenting online saying I take myself too seriously,” Wilkins said. “I learned from being around this industry at a young age that the only opinion that matters is my own.”

Wilkins and his gal pal Packer were the hottest young things at the Myer show and turned the heads of even the most uptight fashionistas, thanks to his quirky ensemble.

Wilkins even uploaded a snap of himself and his BFF, which he captioned: “How cute do my lil Princess pumpkin pie and I look!”

The pair have known one another since they were babies.

“We met when we were really young,” he said. “We were skiing at Perisher Blue. Our parents were down the snow separately, Gretel with Chessi and my dad with me.

“After a few years apart, we have been inseparable ever since.”

Wilkins is no stranger to a fashion event, making his Fashion Week debut last year in the week’s most unique attire — a silk cape.

“I love fashion, but I don’t like to take it too seriously,” he said. “I studied textiles at school, so it has always been something I am interested in.

“My younger sister’s mum is Collette Dinnigan, who is an extraordinary fashionista ... and my mum and dad are both so sleek and elegant and so I have always had an interest in how things look.”

In a time where conservative and safe trumps crazy and controversial when it comes to our social scene, Wilkins is a much-needed bright spark.
