MTV actress Jillian Rose Reed draws major inspiration from Jennifer Lopez’s 2000 Grammy Awards outfit
IT WAS the dress that created internet history and inspired the creation of Google images. Now another celeb has given it a go.

IF YOU’VE ever spent hours on Google Images searching for everything from your favourite red carpet looks to albino turtles, there’s one person you should thank.
As well as the thousands of Google programmers that created the image platform, it was the frenzy around Jennifer Lopez’s dress from the 2000 Grammy Awards that birthed the idea of the search engine.
And now actress Jillian Rose Reed, from the MTV series Awkward, has tried to create her own red carpet moment by drawing major inspiration from Lopez’s original Versace dress.
While there’s no denying the 25-year-old actress looked incredible in the risque, jungle number, it definitely didn’t have the same level of impact as the original.
In 2015, Google’s executive chairman Eric Schmidt explained exactly how Lopez’s iconic look created literal internet history.
“People wanted more than just text,” he said.
“This first became apparent after the 2000 Grammy Awards, where Jennifer Lopez wore a green dress that, well, caught the world’s attention. At the time, it was the most popular search query we had ever seen. But we had no sure-fire way of getting users exactly what they wanted: JLo wearing that dress. Google Image Search was born,” Schmidt added.
The dress clearly had a huge impact because, even 17 years later, designers are still using the Versace gown as inspiration.
And, Reed isn’t the first celebrity to wear a similar dress.
Former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell actually wore the same Versace dress a month before JLo did to the NRJ Music Awards in France.
JLo’s dress was so iconic it even spawned its own Wikipedia page.
Donatella Versace, who designed the dress, credited it as a turning point in her career.
Despite the designer originally only intending to let Lopez borrow the dress, it created such a media frenzy that Versace gifted it to the singer as a token of gratitude
Lopez still has the dress in her wardrobe where it sits on display.
