SCORES of teenage girls have tried to recreate Kylie Jenner’s pouty lips using a basic home technique, with terrifying and painful results.

HISTORY is full of examples of celebrities inspiring fashion trends, from Coco Chanel popularising the sun tan in the 1920s to Jennifer Aniston’s character on Friends sparking the ‘Rachel’ hairstyle in the 90s.

But the so-called Kylie Jenner Challenge that swept social media overnight is arguably the dumbest one ever.

Scores of teenage girls — and a handful of boys — shared photos and videos of themselves attempting to achieve the pouty lips sported by the youngest member of the Kardashian-Jenner clan, with terrifying results.

Some used empty bottles or glasses as suction devices to plump their lips, while a few claimed a vacuum cleaner was involved.

After several painful minutes, almost all attempts ended in bruised and swollen disaster — and plenty of tears.

It didn’t take long for the internet to react with typical hilarity, plenty of memes and an understandable level of criticism.

Unsurprisingly, various medical professionals have already issued stern warnings against the practice, saying it could result in permanent damage.

Dr Dendy Engelman, an American dermatological surgeon, told Seventeen.com that do-it-yourself lip plumping craze was “quite concerning”.

“Not only can significant pain, swelling, and bruising result from these suction techniques, but there is potential risk for scarring and permanent disfigurement with repeated attempts,” Engelman said.

Jenner has previously denied using cosmetic assistance to enhance her luscious lips, instead saying her natural features are simply enhanced with make-up.

Elle Magazine reported that the reality star spends almost an hour each morning emphasising her pout.

The beauty routine doesn’t involve jamming her lips into a bottle or household cleaning appliance though.
