‘So much pain’: Horror find in Sam Armytage’s surgery

Armytage revealed doctors made a grisly discovery when she went under the knife last month in a bid to save her from “so much pain”.

TV star Samantha Armytage has revealed a grisly object that was removed from her body following hip replacement surgery.

The Farmer Wants A Wife host, 47, took to Instagram to share a photo of a piece of cartilage that surgeons removed from her joint.

“Do you want to see something disgusting from my recent operation?” she wrote, warning those who didn’t want to see the gruesome find.

Armytage then shared another picture that featured the grim three centimetre chunk of her cartilage.

“Lol. I knew you’d all look,” she continued. “This is a 3cm chunk of rock-like cartilage that’s been floating around inside my hip joint for decades. As my surgeon said; ‘you must have been in soooooo much pain!’ I was.”

Armytage previously said an active childhood and a skiing accident 30 years ago had taken a toll on her right hip.

“I’d torn all the cartilage out,” she wrote on Instagram. “It was bone-on-bone and then became full of severe osteoarthritis.”

“I’m now truly bionic and my nearest and dearest are pleased to not have to watch me limp around in pain anymore,” Armytage said: “Huge thanks to the wonderful nurses (at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney) for the care, a lil’ bit of Endone … heaps of rehab and all my beautiful friends for my flower-filled room!”

Meanwhile, last year, the TV star opened up about the “giant relief” she’s felt since quitting breakfast television in 2021.

“So many people want those jobs that, when you walk away from a big one, everyone goes, what?!” she told Stellar/

“But I’m very proud of myself for doing it. And I’m quite chuffed at how people have reacted; and by that I mean my friends and family and also people I don’t know on the street. I haven’t been on air for two years, so people could have forgotten me.”

Armytage hosted Weekend Sunrise from 2007 to 2013, before moving to weekdays to co-host Sunrise with David Koch until she announced her departure in 2021.

Her departure from breakfast television came shortly after she married partner Richard Lavender in December 2020. The pair now live a quiet life in the NSW Southern Highlands.

“I think we make a good match. I was very lucky to find him at that point in my life,” Armytage added.
