Jamie Oliver has opened up about an awkward encounter he had with chat show legend Oprah Winfrey.
The British chef was visited by Winfrey at his restaurant in London all the back in 2004 when a humiliating incident occurred.
Oliver said he worked tirelessly to make sure the US icon had a great experience, only for a customer to ruin everything at the final moment.
“As soon as she walked through, the whole restaurant stood up and clapped. We had a lovely, lovely time, and we cooked her a lovely meal,” revealed the chef on Nova’s Jase & Lauren.
However, thing’s quickly went wrong after one diner confused Winfrey with US actress Whoopi Goldberg.
“She loved the concept, and then as she left, they stood up again and started clapping, and one customer went, ‘We love you, Whoopi’.”
“And it’s like, ‘Shut up!’ It was the worst thing in the world.”
His confession comes after the TV chef revealed that he once accidentally set himself on fire while drinking absinthe during a wild night in the 1990s.
The star was partying with a bunch of other celebrities at a house party, including Oasis star Noel Gallagher, when the incident took place.
“Do you remember I set myself on fire with some drink? What was it some drink?” he told BBC radio star Zoe Ball. “I will never go near absinthe again.”
Meanwhile, during an interview with The Today Show last year, Oliver was asked to pick his favourite between Vegemite toast or a Tim Tam and that’s when it was revealed he had no idea about the beloved Aussie biscuit.
“What’s that in English? What did you just say? he asked the presenter with a confused look on his face.
“Ah, Vegemite toast. What’s a Tim Tam? What is it, it sounds like some terrible rash,” he joked.
She told him it was a chocolate biscuit and of course had to get him one to try it.
“This is the moment of truth – this thing I have never had before,” he said as he grabbed a Tim Tam from the tray.
“Very, very nice … I will never forget this moment,” said the chef, clearly enjoying his first taste of the iconic Aussie treat.
