I wish that I loved anything as much as Sarah Jessica Parker loves witnessing an eclipse.
The Sex and the City star’s memorable reaction to a 2017 eclipse has resurfaced on social media in recent days, following the April 8 total solar eclipse in North America.
And if you didn’t see it the first time, it’s worth a watch.
The actor is almost hysterical with wonder in the minute-long clip, originally posted to her Instagram account, marvelling to husband Matthew Broderick and those at home about the “unimaginably perfect” sight which has somehow summoned “birds that are rarely ever seen” (???).
Australia is due to witness a solar eclipse in July 2028 – here’s SJP’s monologue, in full, so you have plenty of time to memorise it for your own eclipse reaction videos:
“Oh my god, this is the most spectacular light I’ve ever seen. It DOESN’T MAKE ANY SENSE. It’s happening you guys, it’s HAPPENING.

The memorable clip has recirculated as the recent eclipse became Twitter’s main character this week – and the reaction from fans is very much gentle ribbing at SJP’s delight over the natural phenomenon.
“Her joie de vivre is unmatched,” one person tweeted.
“I’ll never be over Sarah Jessica Parker yelling “birds that are rarely ever seen” during the previous eclipse,” said another.
“She’s just so happy to be alive,” noted one fan on TikTok.
“I wish I was experienncing life like this lol.” another person commented.
“WHAT ARE THE BIRDS WHAT DOES SHE MEAN?” asked another.
One thing’s for sure: We haven’t seen a celebrity experience this much pure, unbridled joy since Drew Barrymore discovered a secret window in her apartment while doing some home renovations in 2022.
