George Clooney and wife Amal brought Hollywood glamour as they arrived hand in hand at the King’s Trust Awards at Buckingham Palace.
The glam pair flew into London from New York City following the Hollywood star’s Broadway run in the play Good Night and Good Luck, which was based on his 2005 film.
Meeting King Charles at the event, human rights lawyer Amal made a candid admission to the monarch about her A-lister husband, who has reverted back to his silver fox look after having dyed his grey hair dark for the role of broadcaster Edward R. Murrow.
In a candid admission, Amal told the King that Clooney had been “extremely nervous” to perform on stage in the role, which was his debut on Broadway.
Clooney, meanwhile, appeared to reference the monarch’s cancer battle in a conversation caught on video.
Greeting the pair, a delighted Charles shook Clooney’s hand, saying, “You’re here! I’m amazed, you’re so busy.”
Amal then told the King that Clooney had “just come off the stage” prior to their arrival in London.
King Charles asked: “Still at the play?”
Clooney then replied that he had “just finished” and when asked by the theatre-loving monarch when he had last performed on stage, the star replied, “39 years ago.”
Amal then referred to the recent CNN live broadcast of Good Night and Good Luck on June 7, which marked the first time a Broadway production aired live on television.
She admitted to the King that Clooney had been nervous while making his Broadway debut.
“He was extremely nervous, I think that’s true, but he did amazing,” Amal said. “They actually just recorded it.”
Clooney, possibly referring to King Charles’ cancer battle, told the monarch: “I’m very happy to see you up and about.
Amal then told the King she and George were a “roving family” and were constantly busy keeping up with their eight year old twins, Ella and Alexander.
Other celebrities at the star-studded reception included actor Joseph Fiennes, make-up guru Charlotte Tilbury and actress Dame Joanna Lumley.
