A smartly dressed Princess Catherine has been seen in her first public appearance in a month, as a royal expert praises the ‘steely’ royal.

'Tumultuous year for the royal family': King and Queen vacation in Scotland

Princess Catherine has made a rare public appearance amid her ongoing cancer treatment, accompanied by her husband Prince William and their eldest child, Prince George.

The much-loved royal, 42, attended the Sunday church service at Crathie Church on the Balmoral estate, marking her first public appearance in a month.

Princess Catherine was seen beaming as she sat in the front passenger seat next to Prince William, who also smiled as he drove their Range Rover Defender.

The Prince of Wales no longer sported his beard and was clean-shaven.

The ever-elegant Princess of Wales was smartly dressed in a light brown tartan checkered trench coat outfit with shoulder epaulets.

She paired her tailored look with a rakish dark brown fedora adorned with pheasant feathers.

Prince William looked equally snazzy in a sophisticated navy suit and tie.

The couple appeared relaxed as they joined fellow members of the royal family for the service, including King Charles and Queen Camilla.

The monarch wore his traditional Scottish kilt while Queen Camilla sported a favoured red and pea green tartan suit, which she was seen in around the same time last year.

Both were snapped smiling in their car as Queen Camilla waved to photographers.

Also in attendance was Prince Edward who was seen driving his wife, Sophie Wessex, and their teenage son James, to the church.

Soldiers from Balaklava Company, 5th Battalion Royal Regiment of Scotland formed a guard of honour. The regiment were appropriately decked out in their Tam O’Shanters with green hackles.

Princess Catherine’s latest appearance comes after she announced her cancer diagnosis via a video message in March.

Since she revealed her diagnosis, she has attended two public event and appeared in a video message with Prince William after the Paris Olympic Games.

She dazzled at Trooping the Colour in June and was met with a standing ovation at the Wimbledon men’s final the following month, one of her favourite events.

Meanwhile, The Sun reports that the Waleses have returned to Windsor from their summer getaway in Balmoral.

This would have been Catherine’s longest journey away from London since her cancer diagnosis.

Following her recent appearances, a royal expert told The Sun the Princess could “pull on her reserves” in order to return to work as early as next month.

Royal author Phil Dampier suggested the Princess of Wales’s Balmoral trip could mean royal fans see her back in the public eye in the coming months.

Dampier said: “It’s a very good sign that we’ve seen Kate twice in recent weeks, first of all at Trooping the Colour and then at Wimbledon, so clearly she’s a lot better.

“It indicates that she is clearly on the mend, and hopefully she’ll be back in action in a month or so, in the autumn.

“You know we can expect to see her start to gradually, slowly do some public engagements, but it will totally depend on the medical advice.”

“I think Kate has got a sort of inner core of steel. She’s quite a sort of steely character, and I think she’s a bit reminds me a little bit of late, Prince Philip,” continued Dampier.

“I think she’s got a sort of inner strength and I think she’s very much pulled on those reserves and I think that of the two she’s probably the stronger character, even though she’s the one who’s got the got the illness, in many ways she will be the stronger of the two in getting through it, and mainly, of course, she wants to be strong for her children.”

The Waleses last appeared together in a video earlier this month to celebrate the GB team ahead of the 2024 Olympics closing ceremony.

In the video, understood to be filmed at Adelaide Cottage on the Windsor Castle estate, Kate said: “From all of us watching at home, congratulations to Team GB.”

William, wearing a Team GB shirt and sporting a beard, added: “Well done with all you’ve achieved. You’ve been an inspiration to us all.”

The video also featured celebrities David Beckham and Snoop Dogg.
