Prince William has enjoyed a day sipping beer and playing darts with actress Hannah Waddingham.
The Prince of Wales features in a documentary hosted by Game of Thrones star Waddingham about his Earthshot Prize.
They were filmed at Alexandra Palace in North London, which was the venue for the inaugural presentation of the future monarch’s environmental initiative in 2021.
Prince William, 42, and Waddingham, 50, laughed as they both struggled to hit the bullseye, and sometimes even the dartboard, in their match.
Spotting a roll of honour of world champions, Prince William said, “I think we are probably no threat to anybody on this board.”
Waddingham joked, “I’m feeling equal joy and terror about playing darts with the future King of England.”
The documentary is called The Earthshot Report, airing on BBC1.
Each year, five innovators receive £1 million towards their projects to repair the planet.
Prince William said, “It’s very hard for someone to understand what’s the point of protecting the planet if you never use it.
“It’s really important that we get people out into nature because then they’ll value it. We have to protect it, we have to look after it, we have to think about it in a way that’s sustainable and beneficial for all of us.”
He also told Waddingham that his eco project focuses on “highlighting, showcasing, and scaling all the amazing solutions that are out there. To invest in them, see them, support them and use them — then we will make the earth more sustainable and better for us all going forward.”
Prince William revealed, in what may have been a dig at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, that he doesn’t want to “preach” about the environment.
The Prince of Wales said he wants to be “careful” about telling people what they can’t do as there’s “been a lot of that” already.
It comes as Harry and Meghan have spoken out on environmental issues, although it was revealed last year they flew on a private jet to attend a Katy Perry concert.
Meghan also flew on a private jet in 2019 supplied by friends George and Amal Clooney.
Prince William said, “[I want to] celebrate talent and solutions, rather than telling people ‘don’t do this or don’t do that’. You’ve got to be so careful, because there’s been a lot of that.
I don’t want to preach, I want to find solutions.”
Prince William’s comments on the environment follow criticism levelled at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s Polo series, with the Netflix series receiving the thumbs down from critics.
The Guardian described it as an “unintentional comedy” about “the stupidest, most obnoxious sport known to humanity”.
The show looks “destined to fall … into obscurity at the speed of light. And rightly so,” continued the reviewer.
Prince Harry, who served as an executive producer alongside Meghan on the five part docuseries, pitched the program as showcasing the “true depth and spirit of the sport” and its “high-stakes moments”.
