King Charles has made an emotional appearance in his first face-to-face engagement in over two months. Watch video.

King Charles holds first audience since cancer diagnosis

King Charles says he has received “so many wonderful messages and cards” from well wishers after his cancer diagnosis that they have brought him to tears.

The monarch made the comments during his first face-to-face audience with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak after his cancer battle was revealed earlier this month.

The smiling King, 75, appeared in good spirits as he greeted Mr Sunak and shook his hand at Buckingham Palace, marking the restart of their weekly encounters to discuss matters of government.

King Charles previously carried out his meetings with Mr Sunak over the phone from Sandringham following his cancer diagnosis.

“Wonderful to see you looking so well,” Mr Sunak said to the King.

“It’s all done with mirrors,” the King joked in reply, who said the messages and cards sent to him by the public had “reduced me to tears”.

The PM replied: “We’ll we’re all behind you, the country is behind you.”

The PM added: “It’s nice to see the spotlight that it has shone on the work the charities do in this area, which I’m sure you’re familiar with as well.”

The King replied: “I hear there’s been a lot more attention and interest on those main wonderful cancer charities, many of which I’ve been patron of for years.”

Before speaking to Mr Sunak privately, the King also met with members of the Privy Council in person.

King Charles has continued to work privately through treatment, appearing on Sundays to attend church with Queen Camilla. However, the monarch is pausing public engagements as he undergoes treatment for an unspecified form of cancer, which was discovered while being treated for an enlarged prostate.

It comes as Sky News host Danica De Giorgio said Prince Harry had allegedly offered to “help out” with royal duties due to the health of his father King Charles III.

It was reported the Duke of Sussex asked to take up a hybrid role similar to the one he and Meghan Markle proposed before they decamped to the United States.

The claims emerged after Prince Harry flew to London for a solo visit to see his father. However, sources close to the King are insistent that things haven’t changed, and that there is no way back to the royal fold for the California-based Harry.
