King Charles admitted to London hospital for scheduled prostate surgery

King Charles III defied longstanding tradition as he made a dramatic entrance to the London Clinic for surgery a week after Princess Catherine went under the knife.

King Charles has been admitted to a London hospital for treatment.

King Charles III broke with royal protocol as he arrived for prostate surgery at the London Clinic, accompanied by Queen Camilla, and made a beeline to the bedside of Catherine, Princess of Wales.

The dramatic arrival at 9am local time defied two longstanding royal traditions; going to hospital alone and not visiting royal family members when they are admitted for treatment.

With Princess Catherine recovering from abdominal surgery at the same private hospital where the King is going under the knife, the Monarch broke the two taboos in one move.

The Queen left the clinic about six hours later, with sources saying the King was “doing well” after the surgery.

“The King was this morning admitted to a London hospital for scheduled treatment,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement.

“His Majesty would like to thank all those who have sent their good wishes over the past week and is delighted to learn that his diagnosis is having a positive impact on public health awareness.”

It comes a week after the King shocked the world by announcing, 90 minutes after news broke of Princess Catherine’s abdominal surgery, that he would undergo treatment for the enlarged prostate.

The dual announcement was widely seen as a move by the King to relieve pressure on his beloved daughter-in-law.

The reason for Princess Catherine’s surgery has not been revealed, with Kensington Palace only saying it was non-cancer related.

She is expected to remain under supervision until at least next week before being discharged to recuperate at home.

King Charles is said to be “very worried” about the Princess of Wales, according to His Majesty’s biographer Robert Hardman.

“He’ll be more worried than anyone other than Prince William about her. She’s fit, she’s young and she’s out of action for three months,” Mr Hardman told GB News.

The 75-year-old is expected to stay for two nights to recover before returning to Buckingham Palace, where the mood has been “subdued” after the “unwelcome reminder” of the septuagenarian King’s age, insiders told The Daily Beast.

Despite being urged by Camilla to “slow down”, the King’s team insisted to the UK’s Telegraph that the procedure is a “temporary thing”.

“He will be back up and running and very keen to pick up his usual pace … His work ethic is well known,” the source said.

“He’s going to be raring to go once he’s had a short period of recuperation.”
