Denmark’s future king towered over his Australian mum Queen Mary in a sweet snap the royal couple proudly shared to Instagram to celebrate their eldest son’s graduation.

Crown Prince Christian, 18, received his diploma from Ordrup Gymnasium this week – a high school in the northern suburb of Greater Copenhagen.

At 188cm, young Christian stood head and shoulders above not only his royal parents but most of his classmates too as they marched in their graduation parade and hugged one another in joy.

The king and queen looked just like any other proud parents as they sat in the audience to watch the ceremony.

“It was a festive end to 13 years of schooling, when His Royal Highness the Crown Prince graduated today,” the post from the royal family Instagram account read.

“The Royal Couple and the Crown Prince’s siblings were present when His Royal Highness was presented with his diploma and afterwards were sent off well with the student van.”

The royals also posted an Instagram reel set to the tune of the Black Eyed Peas hit song I Gotta Feeling which shows the students laughing as they march in their graduation caps waving the flag of Denmark.

It’s the second such celebration for the graduating class this week with the royals also seen supporting the young prince at a separate ceremony on Tuesday.

The four Danish royal children are growing up fast with Christian’s younger sister Isabella now 17 and the twins Vincent and Josephine 13.

As the eldest son of King Frederik, Christian is first in line to the Danish throne.

Despite his royal blood, which sees him live between Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen and in the Chancellery House at Fredensborg Palace, there are many aspects of Christian’s life which mirror that of regular teens.

His bio on the Danish royal website explains how his education was impacted by the pandemic.

“Together with his siblings, The Crown Prince began a planned 12-week stay at the international school Lemania-Verbier in Switzerland on 6 January 2020,” the website reads. “Because of the situation with Covid-19, the stay was terminated ahead of time.”

The Danish royal family are regular visitors to Mary’s native Australia and have previously been spotted frolicking at Bondi beach as well as enjoying the sights in her home state of Tasmania.
