Lil’ Kim offered her support to those who have been affected by the devastating Los Angeles fires — by praying for another natural disaster to strike.
“Been sending strong prayers up for LA and everyone affected by the fires,” the Lady Marmalade rapper, 50, born Kimberly Jones, wrote on Instagram this week.
“This is heartbreaking. I pray to Jesus that God make [sic] it monsoon in LA.”
The comments were turned off on Kim’s post.
According to National Geographic, a monsoon is a seasonal change in the direction of the prevailing, or strongest, winds of a region that can cause wet and dry seasons.
Monsoons can cause flooding, damage infrastructure, wash away crops and destroy the water, sanitation and hygiene infrastructure.
The rapper’s comment sparked mixed reactions from fans who questioned Kim’s sentiments.
“A monsoon?!? God, you can ignore this one,” tweeted one person on X.
“lil kim thank you so much for wishing another natural disaster on los Angeles,” another person sarcastically wrote.
“This is what happens when yall ask celebrities to speak up and comment on issues. Mamas said God send another natural disaster,” added a third fan.
“A monsoon?!?! She meant rain lord, rain! Not a monsoon. Bless her heart. She meant well but we absolutely don’t need a monsoon, we need rain! Take her prayer off the list,” wrote another person.
Other fans appreciated Kim’s post and said they understood what she was attempting to say.
“I’m really crying at her wishing another natural disaster on us to cancel out the current one, but we gon’ let it slide cause fave’s heart was in the right place. Love you Kim!” tweeted a fan.
“Kimberly Denise Jones. You know what? Your heart is in the right place. That’s all that matters. #MakeItMonsoonFatherGod,” said another.
“I get what she was trying to say but this is wild,” added a third.
Page Six has reached out to Kim’s rep for comment but did not immediately hear back.
The deadly fires in LA began last Tuesday and have taken the lives of at least 24 people.
Several celebrities have lost their homes in the flames, including Paris Hilton, Tina Knowles, Miles Teller and more.
