Pink suffered an overdose at a rave weeks before signing her first record deal.
The singer described the November 1995 scare on the American 60 Minutes on Sunday, saying she took “ecstasy, angel dust, crystal, all kinds of things” at the thanksgiving event.
“Then I was out,” the Grammy winner, 44, recalled, according to Page Six. “Done. Too much.”
When the host asked Pink whether she “almost died,” the songwriter confirmed, “Yeah.”
The performer noted in the interview that she was “off the rails” at the time and had previously “dropped out of high school.”
Pink explained, “I was a punk. I had a mouth. I had a chip on my shoulder. Basically I grew up in a house where every day my parents were screaming at each other, throwing things. They hated each other.
“I got into drugs,” she continued. “I was selling drugs.”
Weeks after her overdose, Pink “signed to LaFace Records” with her band Choice as “token white girls on a Black label.”
The girl group was short-lived, with the American Music Award nominee launching her solo career in 2000.
Pink initially revealed her overdose while speaking to Entertainment Weekly in 2012 and clarified that it “wasn’t to the point of going to the hospital.”
Pink explained that she was “on all the club drugs” and a “a hardcore partyer from 12 to 15.” One year before her wake-up call, her friend Sekou Harris suffered a fatal overdose.
She “never took drugs again, ever” after her own near-death experience, saying, “That’s the thing with me. Once I make up my mind, I’m done.”
Pink said over the weekend that the “metaphorical machete” she carried around that made her a “really difficult kid” has made her a “survivor” and a success in the music industry.
“I never got a record deal because I was cute,” Pink, who shares two children with husband Carey Hart, said. “I got a record deal because I was fiery, I had a lot to say and I had a voice.”
