A new interview between Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell is going viral but for a wild reason.

One day, you’re two celebrities that people declare secretly dating, and the next, you’re being roasted for “forcing” your chemistry.

Romance rumours have plagued romantic comedy co-stars Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell for months.

The online theories that the two were hooking up stemmed from the fact that they seemed to get along so well when filming their upcoming movie Anyone But You in Australia.

It also didn’t help that Powell and his girlfriend, Gigi Paris, called it quits in the middle of the movie filming, and Paris unfollowed Sweeney on Instagram.

Eventually, the theories lost steam because Sweeney stayed engaged to restaurateur Jonathan Davino, and both denied they had ever hooked up.

Powell told Men’s Health that he felt the rumours were “unfair” and Sweeny told Variety that she “doesn’t really care”.

Yet an appearance of the pair on America’s Today Show has sent fans over the edge and some are now claiming it is all a “PR Stunt”.

Sweeney and Powell let their chemistry shine when they answered questions about their relationship to host Hoda Kotb.

When she inquired if they immediately knew they “had chemistry” at the first table read, the pair looked at each other and burst out laughing.

“Yeah,” Sweeney said sheepishly.

When Kotb pressed and asked if there was any romance between the two, Powell said that they do “love” each other, then took it a giant step further and said Sweeney was one of the most “specular humans” he has ever met.

They were in a television interview, not reciting their wedding vows.

The whole interview featured Sweeney adoringly staring at Powell, and both of them were giggling and smiling happily.

Instead of the interview being eaten up by eager fans who like to dine out on their chemistry, people online weren’t impressed.

“It still seems so forced, like they’re trying to get PR for their movie, but it’s not working,” one claimed.

Another claimed it came across as “cringe”, someone else said their banter felt more “staged” than authentic, and another wrote the pair were playing it up for “clout”.

One fan claimed it was “awkward”; others just asked why Sweeney never referred to her fiancé so she could seamlessly squash the rumours.

“Why didn’t Sydney say ‘no, I’m engaged’?” one demanded.

A fan replied and said she’d wondered the same and added she’d be “upset” if her fiancé didn’t mention their engagement.

The celebrity couple that everyone was rooting for are now just being roasted on the internet over the chemistry that everyone was obsessed with in the first place.
