SEAN Penn and Charlize Theron were awkwardly back together on the red carpet in Cannes to debut their film The Last Face — a year after the Hollywood duo broke up following 2015’s fest.
Reuniting in Cannes to promote their new film, they reportedly avoided each other at press events leading up to the premiere. A source at the screening told Page Six, “Sean and his cast, including Charlize, all did their group photos together on the red carpet,” but Theron kept her distance from director Penn.
When the cast was ready to head inside, Penn ran back to his daughter, Dylan, instead.
But when the film ended, he and Theron came face-to-face — and shared a friendly, yet awkward-looking, smooch.
Either way, their film’s been savaged by critics. The Hollywood Reporter called it a “stunningly self-important but numbingly empty cocktail of romance and insulting refugee porn.” Penn said, “I stand by the film as it is.”
Penn and Theron dated for two years before calling it quits last June.
