Former Home & Away star Lincoln Younes has picked a side in the controversial Australia Day celebrations debate.
The Aussie actor took to social media on Friday to share his attenance at an anti-Australia Day rally.
Younes shared a photo to his Instagram as he joined thousands across the country to protest against marking January 26, and for Indigenous rights.
He captioned the snap of the event with black, yellow and red love hearts – the colours of the Aboriginal flag.
The former soap star, who was up for a Logie last year, was also joined by his pal and fellow actor, ABC star Costa Georgiadis. The pair kept their appearance low-key, keeping the focus strictly on the topic in hand.
Australia Day has become increasingly controversial in recent years with celebrities coming out on both sides on both sides of the issue.
Samantha Armytage shared her support for Australia Day earlier this week. Taking to Instagram, the Farmer Wants a Wife host shared an image of ten flags placed in a silver cup on a coffee table in her home.
The presenter then wrote son top of the snap: “Best country in the world.”
Multiple stores and local councils dropped Australia Day events this year as attitudes shifted on holding commemorations on January 26.
January 26, 1788, was the day the First Fleet of British ships arrived at Sydney Cove, Port Jackson and founded the colony of NSW.
For many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, the anniversary of this day is not one to celebrate as it marks the start of the dispossession and marginalisation of Indigenous Australians.
Reconciliation Australia, the national body focused on reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians, said many Aboriginal people wish to celebrate Australian values and freedoms but feel they can’t do that on January 26.
Last week, Woolworths came under significant heat after it was revealed it would stop selling Australia Day merchandise due to lack of sales.
