Helen Mirren, ageless, totally nailed ‘chic’ at the Golden Globes.
Dressed in a black sheath from designer Badgley Mischka and bejewelled with one mighty extraordinary, snake-like diamond necklace from Harvey Winston, Ms Mirren showed the rest of the night’s ruby rug dwellers how style is done.
Jane Fonda ruffled her way onto the Golden Globes red carpet, thanks to Jean Paul Gaultier, in a cream gown that will have its fair share of fans and just a few detractors.
Yep, the septuagenarians — Mirren and Fonda — certainly won at this year’s awards with both women showing the younger crew how class and style evolves.
It can’t be bought. And in the case of these two, innate style just becomes more pronounced as they mature.
That said, another red carpet queen, Cate Blanchett, who opted for an exquisite embroidered pink, silk Givenchy gown, is bound to polarise some fashion fans.
I absolutely adored it — soft and floaty and like many of Ms Blanchett’s fashion choices, is always slightly on the edge of ‘usual’ and ‘predictable’ fashion.
Other Globes guests who deserve style accolades include Kate Hudson who defied a mooted ‘let’s cover up’ dress creed and wore the best bandeau top and slim long skirt in a nude tone from Michael Kors. It was the kind of look that could only be worn by someone with the body confidence of Hudson.
Jennifer Lawrence in a red Dior gown; Olivia Wilde in burgundy and Kate Bosworth in bejewelled Dolce & Gabbana all proved that the red carpet is in good hands.
The brightest canary yellow hue was shared by two women — Jennifer Lopez in Giambattista Valli and America Ferrera who wore Jenny Packham.
Lady Gaga opted for a demure Versace gown, making her look more ’50s screen siren than ever before, while Katy Parry looked to take a leaf out of the Mariah Carey style book, stunning in a low cut pink gown from Italian design house Prada.
